Feel great, look fair. August 6, 2007 Robert (New Jersey) 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
These shoes were somewhat comfortable right out of the box and after a week of break in they are very comfortable all day, even walking around alot. That's what I selected Rockports for, and they are living up to their reputation in that area. However, in person the uppers have the look of a less expensive shoe, like the department store house brand that is similar to the high quality shoes in style but only costs half as much. If these cost less, I'd easily give them another star, but for the price my perception is they're somewhat lacking in this area. So far the workmanship appears to be solid.

This will be my second pair of Ellingtonwood Oxfords. I will admit that I'm no fashion slave, but these shoes go well with my day-to-day office shirt and tie, and I've even worn them with my tux (without my wife even noticing). These are the most comfortable dress shoes I've ever owned, but there's a huge added bonus - these shoes are water resistent. My feet stay dry and happy whether is rain or shine! (Check out the Rockport website for more details.) These shoes are more expensive than most of the shoes that I tend to buy (I like to stay in the $60 range). When I tried them on in the store, I had to think for a moment if my feet would appreciate spending the additional 20 bucks. I also weighed the hassle of more shopping and the answer was obvious. I forked over my eighty bucks and my feet are grateful.
Don't be fooled by the gimmicks June 11, 2008 John W. America (Kingston, NY) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
Out of the box, you'd think these shoes are pretty comfortable - in fact, considering that they stole an important aspect of Mephisto's shoes design, the Soft-Air mechanism (which Rockport calls the Kinetic Air Circulator), they SHOULD be comfortable. But after a few weeks, they most certainly aren't. The quality simply isn't there compared to Mephisto shoes. The leather is thin, stiff and plasticky, the insole is cheap foam that quickly flattens out, and the rest of the shoe just isn't up to par with genuinely comfortable shoes. Once the insole wears out in a month (if you do much of any walking), the shoes go from sort-of comfortable to painful. The hard leather does not conform to your foot, but rather squeezes it when you take a step and the toe cap digs into the top of your foot if the shoe bends too far. I don't recommend buying these shoes unless your foot happens to be exactly the same as the shape of these shoes, because they're completely unyielding and become painful even to sit around in after a few weeks.
good shoe, needed breaking in. February 9, 2008 anthony 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Out of the box, the shoe was not as comfortable as I was expecting when I walked. But it seemed to fit and after a couple weeks is now very comfortable.
Great shoe, even better price May 28, 2008 John C. Roberts (Shoreview, MN USA) I have very narrow feet--A width; and very long feet--13. It's tough to find a shoe that I can wear, unless I'm willing to pay $300 for a pair of shoes. I was pleasantly surprised that this shoe offers a relatively good fit and wears extremely well. This is my second pair of the Ellingwood Oxford. My first pair, black in color, are a year old and still look like new. Now if Rockport would just make all their styles in Narrow....
