Renown internationally as a manufacturer of boxing equipment, Everlast started out as a swimwear manufacturer in 1910. Headquartered in the Bronx, NY, the company was founded by 17-year-old Jacob Golomb. The son of a tailor and an avid swimmer, Jacob Golomb was dissatisfied with the durability of swimsuits because they barely lasted a season, so he began making suits that he guaranteed would last for a full year. He proudly gave them the name, Everlast. Although the swimsuits did not last through the years, the name did. Over the next years, Golomb expanded his company into a small retail store that carried a full line of sports equipment. In 1917, a young fighter named Jack Dempsey introduced boxing to Golomb and Everlast. Dempsey asked Golomb to construct protective headgear that would last more than 15 rounds of intensive boxing training. Golomb specially designed the training gear for Dempsey. In 1919, Dempsey won the world's heavyweight championship wearing boxing gloves made for him by Golomb. Everlast became the headquarters for boxing equipment throughout the world. In 1925, Golomb designed elastic-waist trunks to replace the leather-belted trunks then worn by boxers. These trunks, now known as boxer trunks, immediately became famous. Jacob Golomb ran the business until he passed away in the early 1950's and his son, Dan, took over. In 1958, Ben Nadorf joined Everlast and purchased 50% of the company from the Golomb family. When Dan Golomb passed away in 1995, Nadorf purchased the family's remaining 50% interest. Nadorf remained the President and Principle Share Holder of Everlast until October 24, 2000. Everlast men's and women's apparel and accessories continue today to be tremendously successful both inside and outside the ring. In addition, Everlast boxing trunks and equipment remain the proud and undefeated champion of the boxing industry for more than 90 years. The history continues, as the name states. Everlast has a traditional past and a knockout future. What's in the Box? Red Everlast bag, black plastic stand, Ever-Flex collar, black plastic bag stabilizer Manufacturer Warranty 1 year

Best Freestanding Bag I owned July 14, 2005 C. Colis (Harlem, NY) 43 out of 44 found this review helpful
I had the same experience that the dude before experinced with the whole sliding around the carpet thing, but the screws on my bag are still going strong after hitting the bag everyday for months. I even took it apart to see if the screws were digging into the plastic & there were no signs of "digging," since there are rubber sleeves that go over the screws to help protect the plastic from any of that. As far as the performance of the bag....I love the whole spring action thing it's got. The workout you get on this bag is better than a regular freestanding bag due to the spring action. The combonations you can throw on this thing are phenomenal and you don't have to worry about it tipping over after your power punch. Nothing can beat a hanging bag, but this is the best alternative especially if you live in a small apartment or a dormitory like me.
Great Bag! March 15, 2006 Cowgirl (Colorado) 33 out of 33 found this review helpful
Already having a 100# Leather Everlast bag hanging in my basement, the Everlast Freestanding Heavy Bag was a nice addition. While I like the 100# bag for punching, it wasn't very soft to kick at the bottom. I purchased the freestanding bag for light bag work as well as pretty powerful kicks. The freestanding bag holds up great for everything. I only have one request for the manufacturer...eliminate the adjustable heights and go back to the way the old freestanding bag was...one long height on top of the drum. I took kickboxing classes at a local school and the type of bag they had was the old kind that Everlast no longer makes. One height allows for kicking/punching low, medium and high. It also allows for a low kick and then a round house kick. That kind of switching around doesn't really work with the adjustable height bag. I tend to set my freestanding bag up adjacent to my hanging bag for switching up high and low kicks and punches. Other than that, I would definately recommend this bag. It never feels weak or like it will break, no mater how much force I use. As many complaints as I have heard or read about the bag sliding around during use, I haven't experienced any movement. My bag sits on concrete, but I use sand rather than water to fill the drum for weight.
The parts may as well be made of glass. August 5, 2006 Expletive Deleted (Atlanta, GA, United States) 16 out of 18 found this review helpful
I've had this product about a month, purchased from a sporting goods store - at first all was well. Unfortunately the bag became shakier and shakier as time progressed. I had to reset the screws (as other reviews for this product have mentioned) - but one screw WOULD not come out. It was stripped. A week later, same problem. I tend to hit the bag about 2 hours a day 3 times a week and 1 hour a day the rest of the week. Apparently hitting it causes the screws to warp the holes of metal centerpiece which connects the stand & bag to the base. This causes either: a) screws to strip b) the holes to enlarge and warp, meaning screws no longer catch. Apparently whoever designed this product forgot that a punching bag is made to be struck and hit. Today finally the bag got KO'ed because now only two holes in the metal centerpiece out of eight will actually securely catch the screws. I'm a 6'1 220 lb. guy and I'm only using about half of my full force into my punches (again, I hit it just about every day) - so in other words this bag is definitely not intended for heavy-duty use. I'll call Everlast Monday and keep my fingers crossed that the replacement part is made sturdier than the original.
Great workout, great value March 18, 2006 NJ guy 06 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
The Everlast Freestanding Heavy Bag is a great way to keep in shape while taking out your frustrations! It's a good alternative to traditional heavy bags, which tend to be expensive and require hardware for hanging. While it's a fun workout, it's definitely not for kids or those with any type of hand/arm injury or arthritis. Use of traditional heavy bag gloves is a must, and hand wraps are suggested. Even with gloves and wraps, my hands were pretty sore after my first few workouts. Overall, this is a great piece of gym equipment for those with limited space and resources, but still want to get a good workout.
Poor quality, not at all for constant striking November 14, 2005 Horrib Lee Swollen (Port Neches, TX) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
An almost good design with awful quality, or maybe the other way around. The materials themselves do seem OK. The unit basically consists of the base, the spring, the "finger" the bag slips over, and the cylinder shaped bag itself. Inside the bag is a thin plastic cylinder that slips over the finger. The inner plastic cylinder has four knobs which slide into the grooves on the finger. The first times I used it I had problems with the bag falling down, knobs slipping out of the grooves. I could only hit it for a little while before I'd have to reset it. Since plastic wears and bends I figured this would only get worse. I thought I'd be able to tape it in place or something and it wouldn't be a problem. That problem went away by itself though and the bag started slipping upwards on it's inner plastic cylinder instead. I have to keep taking the bag unit off to shove the plastic down into place. All by itself the bag went from constantly falling to constantly climbing. Like the other reviewer, I also noticed the screws digging into the plastic after I tightened them. The rubber sleeves easily tear from tightening. It doesn't seem to be that big of a deal but the screws may make the plastic tear and break in the future. Minor complaints are that I'd like a longer bag for more striking area and that it only has three height adjustments. A product like this should've only been a prototype. A little more thought and effort would've made this thing great without much cost increase. I have mine set up in my backyard on some sand so its slight sliding isn't an issue.
