Product Description Fire building made easy, the pure and natural way. Don't build your fire with noxious fumes or harmful chemicals. Use the time-honored, organic method. A technique that resembles the centuries-old art of the native fire-builder. From the heart of the ancient Mayan Empire comes the remarkable product known as MayaSticks. MayaSticks are made from Pino de Ocote, a fatwood pine cultivated in the highlands of Guatemala and Mexico. With their 80% resin content, MayaSticks are easy to light, even when wet and produces an extremely hot flame. Use 1-2 sticks to quickly light your fire or BBQ.

Light a fire in the rain, these will. August 8, 2007 jimnypivo (west of Chicago, USA) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I got some of these Mayan Resinwood sticks and a magnesium fire starter at a Sporting Goods Show a few years back. Shave a few splinters off the chock-full of resin sticks, strike with the magnesium striker, and you have a campfire going quickly. If you have trouble finding burnable material, one of the Mayan firesticks will burn strong and last quite a long time. They came in handy more than a few times on damp and wet conditions while camping with my sons' Scout Troop. These Mayan sticks are FAR superior to Georgia or Alabama fatwood. I bought mine in Tennessee! The snuff-can package has the shaving part already done for you, but you'll need additional tinder if you want your fire to last. They are also great to keep in the car with some tinder and matches for those 'just in case' situations.
Ouch April 3, 2007 8 out of 30 found this review helpful
I burned my hand, but it was ok. I got to keep 3 of my fingers. They work fine, but they're a bit too hot.
Fatwood is the greatest for portable tinder!!!! November 22, 2007 John (Spokane, WA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
There is nothing better than fatwood which is what these Mayasticks are for starting a fire.....they light easily and burn hot! hot! hot! Great for camping, hunting and emergency use.
these really work! August 25, 2008 J. Loder (san francisco, ca) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
i was so happy to find these online. i lived in Guatemala for a couple years, and got really spoild using these resin-rich sticks (available in any market there since a larg percentage of people in that country still heat their homes and cook using open wood fire) to start any type of fire. they are better than any lighter fluid you can find and they smell AMAZING (of pine) as opposed to toxic, and they won't contaminate your food! personal tip that isn't mentioned on the package: they work even better if you can splinter them into fine strips with a knife. you might have to smash one stick with a hammer to do that since i found that the ones in my package came in thick wedges.
