Product Description An integrated approach to camping/survival/rescue. Developed by Tool Logic, the SL3 is a complete survival kit weighing only 78 g (2.7 oz). A razor sharp blade with a spear point shape, an all-weather FireSteel fire starter and a loud emergency whistle makes the SL3 the natural choice for all outdoor activities. The blade has sufficient curve for most field chores and can be opened and closed with one hand. The 50/50 serrations add utility in both cutting and sawing. The SL3 is not only well thought out, it is rugged enough to live up to its slogan - Built for Life.

Disapppointing August 29, 2007 James C. Henson (SC) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I got this item primarily for the Firesteel, however since I collect knives, this looked like an item I would like. I will echo the comments folks have made regarding the price of Firesteel being a bit on the high side and add it to this item as well. I was able to easily make an abundance of sparks with the tool. The knife has the weight and feel of recycled aluminum and is dull by my standards. Isn't close to being sharp enough for camping or hiking type tasks in my estimation. I would expect something approaching razor sharpness in a product in this price range. The sharpness can be addressed but not the quality. Overall it has a pretty flimsy feel (I'd be afraid of bending or snapping the blade off in any moderate to heavy usage). It is Ok as a conversation piece, but I'll stick with my old mangnesium bar fire starter and one of my quality knives for my uses.
Very cool! Also has undocumented features. March 11, 2007 K. Geter (Denver, CO) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This works as advertised, although it takes some practice to start a fire with just a spark. Some features that aren't in the description: the compartment on the back will hold a Mag-Lite Solitaire - that's the little single AAA flashlight, or you can pull the fire starter rod out of the lid and use the compartment as a waterproof container (matches, anyone?) or pill box! Cool! It is made in Seki Japan, the same place where most Spyderco knives are made. The blade is 420J2 stainless. The liner lock is easy to operate one-handed, and the whistle is LOUD. I'm very pleased with it. A great deal for all it does.
Nice idea, but falls short November 17, 2007 P. Edwards (Fairbanks, AK United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am not impressed with this package. The blade is dull and the steel is cheap, not holding an edge. The Firesteel adds too much bulk to the handle to effectively use the knife for most cutting shores. This item is pricey but fails to deliver a quality tool. If you like gimmicky items to show, but not use, this was designed for you.
What a Great Knife! September 1, 2007 Keith Jackson (Woodinville, WA) I think this knife is a delight. It has so many great features packed into a small space. The blade is incredibly sharp. According the package it's 420J steel from Seki in Japan. The FireSteel works like a charm. Rather than use the notch in the blade, I use the back of the blade. It seems to work even better and I like having the knife closed while firestarting. It's a got a whistle, a glow-in-the-dark lanyard, and a belt clip. Very handy. My favorite trick is that the firesteel storage area perfectly holds a MagLite Solitaire Mag Instrument Magritte AAA Solitaire Flashlight, Blue #K3A116. This puts a bright light on whatever I'm cutting.
Like a survivial kit in one small package! September 2, 2007 NW Dave (Puget Sound, WA) This is a great tool to carry around if you spend alot of time outdoors...it has a great Swedish Firesteel incorporated in the handle....you can start a fire (or at least make some great 5000 degree sparks to impress your mates). I've also used the signal whistle.
