Amazon.com Product Description Why pay over $100 for a heart rate monitor when the D-71 Heart Rate Monitor for Dummies offers the same functions for a fraction of the price? Similar to a standard wristwatch, the strapless D-71 lets you safely and effectively monitor your heart rate and workout intensity with just a quick glance at your wrist--no chest belt required. Monitoring your heart rate is important whether you're training for a marathon or just want to walk for basic exercise and weight loss. Not only can you determine whether you're exercising too vigorously or lethargically, but you can also create a custom workout routine with escalating intensities. Best of all, the D-71 is simple and easy to use, with a Dummies formula instruction guide that walks you through the necessary steps. Other details include an extra-large LCD display for easy viewing, 12- and 24-hour settings, a stopwatch, a daily alarm, a countdown timer, and a calendar. Weighing only 4 ounces, the D-71 is backed by a one-year warranty.

Unreliable December 28, 2007 Robert Wildes 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I had to return this product twice. It only worked correctly for about 24 hours. After that it would freeze up and essentially only function as a watch.
Great heart monitor February 11, 2008 J. Gray (Los Angeles) I use this watch for walking on the treadmill and it works easily. The only thing I wish the manufacturer had include was instructions on how to determine what your optimum heart should be while exercising. I had to search the internet for help with that.
Watch not a good product March 9, 2008 C. Slate (Lakeland, FL United States) This watch did not establish a heart rate and was a waste of money--I returned it.
An ok product August 4, 2008 Daniel Muir Considering the simple stuff you get when you buy a "thing" for "dummies", you should not be so demanding too much. This watch is no in any shape the leading standard of any heart rate monitor, but what are you expecting to get? For me, this works. You get a watch that tells you the time and maybe some measurements about your heart rate. Think about the benefits of not knowing exactly what your heart rate is! This is scary stuff when science tells you what is the really happening with your body! And if you have a bad day, you certainly do not want to even think about your health. So, this is a great buy that not only obscures the truth but also leaves some for the imagination! Enjoy it!
Piece of junk August 11, 2008 Gordon B. Stoll (Doylestown, PA United States) First off operating instructions are written by dumbies, not for dummies. Explain what to do but don't define or show picture of button use. Works sometimes, but seldom. Inaccurate!! When it works , in a relaxed mode I can get a reading of 8o something to 100 something. I have a pacemaker set at 71. During excercise I have gone no higher than 82. Junk--waste of money.
