About Graco In 1942, Russell Gray and Robert Cone formed Graco Metal Products, in Philadelphia, PA. For 11 years, the firm fabricated machine and car parts for local manufacturers. In 1953, Gray left the firm, leaving Cone as sole owner. Cone decided to manufacture his own line of products, but had trouble coming up with ideas. Enter David Saint, an engineer, tinkerer, and stained glass artisan who worked for Graco. Saint, himself a father of nine, was intrigued when an associate told him how his wife would soothe their tired and cranky baby while swinging in a backyard glider swing. Acting on this inspiration, he went to the drawing board and 18 months of hard work later, the world's first wind-up infant swing, the Graco Swyngomatic, was born. Graco sold millions of Swyngomatics in the coming years, becoming one of the world's leading manufacturers of juvenile products in the process. Today, Graco is a Newell Rubbermaid company, with 1500 associates worldwide. While a half-century has brought many changes to Graco, their dedication and commitment to designing and manufacturing top-quality products remains, and continues on. Great Value. Highly Recommended! July 4, 2008 E. VanDolah (Parrish, FL) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I purchased this car seat for my four and a half year old son and we love it. It feels so much safer than the previous booster seat we were using that did not have a five-point harness and did not recline. I was worried that my son would complain about the five-point harness, but that was not the case at all. He is very comfortable in this seat. With the seat reclined, he is able to nap without his having his head slump forward every time I hit the brakes. Also, the head rest is nicely contoured so that his head doesn't slump from side to side. We also love the nice deep cup holder (no more cups falling out of his reach!) and the little storage cubbies located under the arm rests. This is the best value I've found for a car seat of this type. I'm thinking of getting a second one for our other car. . . .
Good carseat July 10, 2008 E. McGahee (Saluda, VA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
We bought this carseat because we have always been happy with Graco and we hope that this will be the last car seat that we have to buy our son (Virginia requires kids be in some type of car/booster seat until they are 8). We like that our son can be in a 5-point harness until he's 65 lbs and then we can convert the seat to a high-back booster or backless booster. Our son loves the seat, especially the cup holder. The only thing we don't like about the carseat is that the bottom isn't padded very well...we will have to see how he does when we travel. Also note that the extra padding insert shown with the 5-seat harness only works with the harness straps at their lowest position, so once they pass that, there is no extra padding. Overall, a great carseat for the price. Hopefully it will last for 5 more years!
Worth the money!!! July 5, 2008 Mother of Two (PA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This car seat is worth every penny we spent on it! We loved it so much we bought two! My soon to be 3 year old son is just under 30 lbs. We were looking for a car seat that would last until he no longer needs one. We've owned this seat for about two months now. It installed very securely with seat belts; we don't have LATCH in our cars. You just need to make sure you seat your child all the way back into the seat. It took us the first time using it to realize we needed to do this. But it was an easy adjustment once we realized it. I read many reviews on this seat before we decided to try it. One such review stated that her child's head stayed upright when he/she slept in the car with this seat. That has been our experience about 40% of the time. My son's head is in the 95th percentile so it doesn't surprise me that he often slumps over when he is sleeping deeply. All the same, we love this seat. We feel like our son is safe in his five point harness. I would highly recommend this seat to anyone looking for a good seat that will last a life time!
Great seat for the price! July 17, 2008 Kimbyy (Los Angeles, CA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We purchased this car seat as my daughter's back up seat in her aunts car. I have a Britax Boulevard in my car and my husband has a Radian 65 in his. I was looking for something that met all my safety standards, but was not going to break the bank. I LOVE this seat, I definitely prefer it over the Radian. It is well padded, for comfort and safety and is large enough to last for as long as we will need it. It is also very easy to install, since we have to do that weekly in her aunts car. We are still using the LATCH system, but will have to switch to the belt in another 6 lbs. My daughter is 4 1/2, 42 lbs and 42 inches. She loves the cup holder and little storage pockets and I love that I don't have to constantly be handing her things. My one complaint is that even installed in a minivan captains chair at a tilt, her head will fall forward about half the time when she is sleeping (which never happens in the Boulevard.) Other than that, we love this seat. After months of researching and purchasing car seats that go over the 40 lb limit, if you can't afford the Boulevard, this one is your best option.
Buying carseats is hard! July 17, 2008 Nicole H. (DFW, United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When it comes to carseats I find this to be the most difficult decision next to buying my car. When I had my car accident in May I had to select a new carseat and I wasn't totally sure I wanted another giant Brtiax... so off to Babies R Us I went with my husband in search of a new carseat. We played with everything they had... I even called a friend to look up reviews - but we settled on this one after much freaking out on my part. For the first month or so of its life, its had to be installed in various rental cars while my car gets fixed.. but its been easy to move from car to car, moreso than my Britax EVER was. I have my complaints about this carseat but they are insignificant overall. I did like the latch system for the Britax (seatbelt like push buttons) and having to rethread the harness when necessary - but its easy, so I can ignore this. Overall I love this carseat, its a great fit for my 2 year old, its easy to install and my son loves it!
