This product did help my baby learn to sit, somewhat. But was only put to use for a very short period of time.
Likewise, it is important to remember that babies have been known to fall out of these chairs, and that it is VERY IMPORTANT to ALWAYS supervise the baby when in the Bumbo, and to always place the Bumbo on the floor (not on a high surface!)
My experience with the Bumbo is that it did work, but for a short time. When my daughter was three months old, I began putting her in the Bumbo. But because her muscles were still weak, and she would crumple over, I wouldn't keep her in it for very long. By four months, her muscles were much stronger and she was able to sit in it for longer periods of time. However, very quickly she progressed and began struggling to break out of the chair. She would arch her back and had I not always been there to take her out, I think she would have gotten out.
As a result, she really only got a few good weeks of sitting in the chair.
In my opinion, the high price of the Bumbo is not worth the few weeks to a few months of actual sit-time you get with your baby.
Propping my baby up on my lap, or with pillows, did basically the same thing as the Bumbo, and perhaps even worked better.
With that said, if you can get the chair on sale or used at a consignment shop, then it is probably worth the money.
Because of the ease at which babies can get out of the Bumbo, and hurt themselves, I am deducting one star. Likewise for the high cost and short use-time, I am deducting another star... making my review a three out of five.

We got this seat for my son when he was 4 or 5 months old. He loved it. We loved that we could have him 'sit' with us before he actually could. He also did the 'arch their back' thing to try to wiggle out--but since he was always supervised, it wasn't a big deal. We'd just take him out of it then. And he may have gotten out of it that way once, but since it's so close to the ground, it certainly didn't hurt him at all. I think he thought it was funny.
Here's the thing, though. He grew out of it and was totally disinterested in it for awhile. But now that he's two (and has a 3 month old baby sister), he LOVES the Bumbo. He likes to sit in it now while we read books before bedtime, and drags it around with him.
Another plus for the Bumbo: The material that it's made out of wipes clean really easily. My kids both have explosive diapers, and while it stains fabrics of other kinds of seats, the Bumbo looks good as new.
It is kind of pricey, and I balked at the price at first, but I'm really glad that we bought it.

We were sitting at dinner last night with our daughter in the Bumbo on the floor. She is 5 months old. I heard a thunk and looked over and she was on the floor and the Bumbo was tipped over. I'm not even sure how she got it to turn over, but I've decided we probably won't be using it anymore. We received it as a gift and I'm glad because I would have been upset if I had bought it, especially at that price.
Even before she fell our daughter never really liked the seat. She's a skinny little girl so she would always end up sitting sideways in the chair.
So all in all, I wouldn't buy this product if I had the chance and will probably only recommend it to friends whose babies are a little bigger and would actually stay where they're supposed to. I would also be adamant that they never place the baby in the bumbo at an elevated position (table, counter etc.).

As with all baby products you need to be careful with the Bumbo. Bumbo has made their guidelines for use very clear. This product is great for feedings, and play time when used as intended.

We used this when our baby was very young! Once he could keep his head up we were putting him in this chair! It helped him learn a lot and also helped him to interact with us... my husband used to put him on the table next to the computer and work with him there...also we would put him on the back porch while we did our yard work. He loved being outside. That said, our baby was too fat to even use it by the time he would have been able to "tump" it over. he could not even crawl or walk when we were using it. We totally love this product and highly recommend it. But don't use it if you are not monitoring your baby. (See below posts for warnings.)
