2 out of 5 stars Good seat with one big flaw   October 21, 2007

We bought two of these for our 5 and 2 old children. We were very excited to have support for forward facing 5pt harness up to 65lbs at less then half the price of a Britax.

On the good side, the seat looks and feels good and is very easy to adjust. There is a lot of padding for comfort and foam on the sides for side crash protection.

The reason for only 2 stars... seams that Cosca once again created a bad buckle system. The buckle flares out on the sides, ideally to fit around a child's leg and help secure the child. Since the buckle only comes up an inch or so, rather then helping secure a child it digs into the child's thighs. If your not extremely careful, you can easily pinch the child's thighs in the car seat, which does not make for a fun road trip. This occurs for both my 2 and 5 year old. You would think that Cosco would learn to either make the buckle straight on the sides or make the length adjustable so it can sit on-top of the thighs thus securing the child and feel comfortable.

Needless to say, both are being returned.

3 out of 5 stars Inexpensive alternative to Regent, but has shortcomings   February 26, 2008

We bought this as an alternative to the gigantic and expensive Regent. We tried them both out at local BRU & BBB and did a lot of shopping online an in stores. We wanted a seat up to 65 with a 5pt harness and these 2 seemed the best for us and our 3 1/2 year old. We bought the Apex knowing that we'd need to to immediately call for a new/updated longer crotch strap (haven't done that yet- so no idea of if it will be hassle-free or not...). PROBLEMS: When our 3 year old sits in the seat the harness is at the highest, maximum, top position and at her height of about 39 inches tall - it is just at her shoulder height -- which is too low! -- so she can probably only use the harness for about 2 months before she outgrows the harness for height -- although she is well below the weight limit at her 36 pound weight. We bought the Apex also because the Regent would take up our extra seat in the middle of our VW Passat wagon. We recently changed to a Toyota Highlander which has 2 captains chair in the second row and a third back seat. I plan on bringing this sear back and buying the Regent since we will now have the room. Also, when our daughter naps in this seat she is so slumped over that her head is almost on her knees -- in the Passat wagon and even in the Highlander --so I'm sure it's the Apex and not the car... If your child is shorter for her/his age or if your toddler is heavy for her/his age then you can probably get some use out of this seat. Although I'd love to see most of us try and use it with the 5-point harness up to 65 pounds, with such short shoulder harness height -- it is probably not possible.

3 out of 5 stars good seat, not for boys   January 21, 2008

I bought the seat for safety reasons for our 4 year old. The seat is very well designed, good body fit and is so much safer than a booster seat. The BIG downside is that the "croch strap" is way too short and extremely uncomfortable for boys. I had heard that to be an issue for many parents who bought the seat and was suprised that this issue has NOT been corrected by the manufacturer. I went to a lot of effort to order a replacement strap, it still has not arrived...

4 out of 5 stars Great Seat!!   January 31, 2008

My daughter loves her new seat. Being that she is only 2 and almost 40 pounds there weren't many options out there to keep her in a harness. She had also grown to tall for her convertible seat so we got this seat in Biltmore. It was an adjustment now that she isn't as high up in the seat, she has to look up to see out the window. She is obviously very conformtable in this and I love the extra padding of the removable seat cushion. And YES, the crotch strap is on the short side for a toddlers chunky legs, but I called the company and the were happy to send me a replacement at no additional cost to me and I received it in a few days. The customer service alone was worth it for us.

4 out of 5 stars Good   February 8, 2008

Good for price. Works well. I find the middle connector a little flddly to use. And the center connected flops down so my child always is sitting on it when i put her in the seat. She complains when I lift her up to move it. But 50% of the price of the leading competitor and more adjustable - so still a good deal. Especially for a 2nd car.
