Caffeine Boost August 27, 2008 anomie (a swiftly tilting planet) 4 out of 8 found this review helpful
I imagined that these Pomegranate Blueberry chews would be a bit like dried fruit. I was wrong. About the size of Starburst, these chews are 20 calories a pop. The "recommended intake" is 2 chews am and 2 in the afternoon or "whenever you need extra energy or pre-workout boost." So that means 80 calories for each "intake." The first ingredient is SUGAR and the second is CORN SYRUP. And the two chew serving gives 20 mg of caffeine. The chews have mildly tart flavour, and the texture reminds me a bit of those chewy fruit Power Bars. Not a great taste, and for my 80 calories, I think I'd rather spend my calories on a piece of fruit or a granola bar. ThinkOrganic Apricot Coconut bars have about 110 calories. No Caffeine, of course. Some people might like these chews as another way of getting caffeine. I try to limit the caffeine I take, so these are not for me.
FRS Pomegranate Blueberry Chews August 28, 2008 Laura (Austin) 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
There was no ingredient list available for this product so I took a chance in ordering them. They sounded good and were promoted as "healthy". If I had known they had so many unhealthy and less than desirable ingredients, including Sucralose, artificial coloring and flavor, carnauba wax, not to mention the main ingredients being sugar and corn syrup, AND the fact there is NO pomegranate OR blueberry mentioned anywhere in the ingredients, I never would have ordered them. I have posted a picture of the ingredient list from the package. I guess the "faux" blueberry must be the FD&C Blue #2, and the "faux" pomegranate must be the ascorbic and citric acid. I reluctantly tried one and, unlike other reviewers, found the taste to be sickeningly sweet. It also had a slightly gritty texture which I found unpleasant, and the aftertaste from the Sucralose lasted for almost fifteen minutes! Of course for those who regularly use products with Sucralose the aftertaste wouldn't be a problem. I really don't understand the inclusion of an artificial sweetener when the main ingredients are sugar and corn syrup...usually the purpose of using an artificial sweetener is to avoid using sugar, and these surely didn't need extra sweetening. These are healthy energy? I don't think so. How about making them with actual FRUIT instead of using mostly junk to represent the missing fruit, with a few vitamins thrown in. Lastly, I didn't think manufacturers were allowed to list fruit in the title when the product does not contain fruit....it does not say pomegranate blueberry "flavored" chews, it says pomegranate blueberry chews. Without that important word, "flavored", most people would assume these contain fruit. Very misleading labeling.
save your money August 28, 2008 L. A. 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
These taste awful. The flavor is so fake, almost like cough medicine. The aftertaste is even worse. It did not give the energy that it states it would give. They are far from healthy. They contain corn syrup, artificial colors, and other junk. I would not recommend these to anyone looking for more energy or something natural. This product is nothing that is states it is. Save your money and get more sleep, drink plenty of water, and eat nutritious foods for more energy.
The first ingredient is SUGAR September 10, 2008 Hope T. (Atlanta, GA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
The product's name "Healthy Energy Chews" would lead one to think that that it was, um, HEALTHY? If you look at the ingredients, the first one is sugar, followed by CORN SYRUP, a bunch of other unrecognizable stuff and then you get some artificial flavors and a few FD&C colors thrown in for good measure. The packaging states "recommended intake: eat 2 chews in the morning and 2 in the afternoon or whenever you need extra energy". There are 30 chews to a package. They taste super sweet like candy, no surprise there, eh? Doesn't do much for me though. I'd rather have a Reese's cup or some other chocolate than eat these chews despite their added vitamins. I take a multi-vitamin every day so these chews just don't make sense for me any which way you look at it. Who would this product be good for? Maybe a college kid that isn't eating right and won't take vitamins. I neglected to mention earlier in the ingredients that this product also has some caffeine. I probably would have eaten this if it had been sent to me in a care package when I was a freshman in college. Beats ramen noodles hands down!
Glorified starburst candies September 8, 2008 Michael Smith (Mountain View, CA USA) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
If you know what a Starburst candy is like, that's what you'll at first think these taste like. But a minute or so later, there will be an odd aftertaste making you wish you had never put it in your mouth. Ok, so it's not that bad, but it's not great either. Apart from the fact that there are some vitamins inside, it's just glorified candy. It's all sugar and there's really no real fruit inside. And caffeine? Totally unnecessary here. Way overpriced when you could get some real vitamins and pick me up by eating a piece of fresh fruit.
