Interactive first book, June 25, 2005 Maria Poole (Southeast) 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
that actually keeps my son's attention for several minutes. I bought this for my son recently due to all the great reviews and the fact that during a recent Wal-mart trip I noticed that they had it for a couple of dollars cheaper than BRU. I am so pleased with it that I am going to include it in a shower gift for someone who already has plenty of newborn items. My 7 month old son always wants to touch and mouth any book I read to him and with this book he can not only manipulate it but he is rewarded for his efforts through the melody playing or the rhyme starting. I began singing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star to him from early on so he really calms down for this song and does so when the book plays it as well. It does have a volume control button and it does shut off when the book is closed. It would make a nice gift for younger babies as well even though the age range begins at 6 months. It is never too early to start reading to your baby and they will also enjoy the light up smiley face on the spine as well.
Great fun! August 4, 2004 Elizebeth Neumann (Seattle, wa) 14 out of 16 found this review helpful
While at BRU exchanging a broken glider someone had left this book on the seat of the glider I was in so I got to play with it a while. I thought it was fun and thought I should bring my daughter in to play with it too. Well we got it for her this weekend and its a hit! There are 6 nursery rhymes that are sung, spoken or just the music is played while the baby is playing with the book. On each page there is a different shaped "toy" that reacts different to how it is touched. When baby touches it the book makes a sound effect or sings differently. The spin of the book is a big smily face with lights that blink. The book is sturdy without being so heavy a baby cant hold it and pick it up. Our daughter was taken with this right away and now just days after having it gets very excited when she see's it. A great inexpensive toy that will last through when your child is reading.
what a cute book December 23, 2004 Betty J. Wright (Crestline, CA United States) 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
I ordered this for my 9 month old grandson for Christmas--it arrived yesterday. What a cute book this is. It talks, sings, has pages to turn, a sweet little voice giggles when the pages are turned and the book will read 5 different nursery rhymes out loud. Its also hard plastic so can't be torn. This is a book and toy in one and I know Levi will find it very entertaining. I think anyone purchasing this item will be pleased that they did so.
Hard to turn, Wrong Lyrics July 8, 2006 A. Rhoads (Washington DC USA) 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
I gave this toy 3 stars because it caught my baby's attention. The hinges are stiff, so it's even hard for us to turn the plastic pages. The lyrics to the songs are off, and trust me, my daughter noticed. Twinkle Twinkle little star is a disappointment. The Old MacDonald says, "with a moo moo here. Moo moo here." and then says "where's the cow? (or pig, nothing else) and the barn door is already open to that image, when it should have it closed for the baby to turn it and discover the animal it's asking for. We are keeping it just for the lights and sounds, but it's not a toy I would recommend to any child who knows songs well. It's confusing for them. We're really big on educating our daughter in whatever situation during playtime and this toy didn't help at all.
Durable, entertaining... but annoying for adults! December 31, 2005 Jennie Kadrioski (Petaluma, CA United States) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
My 16-month-old received this for Christmas, and he's fascinated with it. He's also unfortunately fascinated with throwing things at the moment (sigh), but this toy seems a match for the stress so far. It's very substantial and solidly made. The tabbed pages are simple to turn, and the interior activities are easy for little hands to manipulate. But, yikes! When he puts the book down, it literally nags him to come back with repeated pleas of "It's storytime!" Which doesn't seem to bother him, but it irritates the heck out of the adults. It really, REALLY needs an "off" switch - also because, like someone else mentioned, it has a button on the front, so you can't pack it in a bag without setting it off. If possible, you might want to listen to the toy for five minutes before purchasing. While I don't have much of a problem with the voice myself, it drives my husband up the wall.
