Amazon.com essential video Join Ernie at The Furry Arms Hotel for a musical lesson in just how useful counting can be. When Ernie finds and returns a misplaced key, he uses his knowledge of numbers to return the key to the correct guest. As Ernie begins to learn about the hotel business, he finds many common situations in which counting is essential. Throughout the 30-minute video, Ernie and his friends help children learn to count from 1 to 20 with such songs as the jazzy "That's How the Numbers Go," an original version of the Chorus Line show tune "One," and "Rap Song #11." Favorite Sesame Street characters Elmo and The Count are joined by new characters including Ding the Dinger, a furry fellow with a bell on his head, and Benny, the bellboy that responds to Ding the Dinger's dings. Children as young as 18 months will bounce happily along with the catchy tunes and 2-year-olds will be inspired to count aloud with Ernie. Kids up to age 5 will hone their counting skills and laugh at the increasingly frustrated Benny as he delivers everything from 1 bucket of ice to 15 stampeding elephants! If you're looking for a fun video that teaches counting skills, here it is. --Tami Horiuchi

Excellent teaching tool ... but July 16, 2002 APIMom1999 (Memphis, Tn United States) 18 out of 20 found this review helpful
We love this DVD. My son enjoys and asks for it frequently. Highly recommend...my son loves to count things now!HOWEVER, I do have just one small complaint. The "chapters" are not clean...if you go to the chapter on the number 3 you get the tail end of 2; chapter 5 closes with the beginning of the next number. This is annoying...especially when you want to go to a number and you have to sit thru the end of the previous chapter and all the while La Petite Prince is chanting 3 3 3 3 3 3 3. I have noticed that the SS DVD's (like Follow that Bird for example) don't have logical clean chapters....why? It doesn't seem like rocket science to me...
Ernie sings some FUN songs! February 7, 2003 Syrielle (Suburbs, USA) 17 out of 19 found this review helpful
My 18 month old daughter loves this dvd. And you know what? I do, too! There are some classic songs I remember from Sesame Street as a child along with some newer songs, all about counting. All the songs are catchy and fun. My daughter is learning how to count with the help of Ernie, his friends, and Elmo, as well. Sesame Street has once again succeeded at making learning an enjoyable experience! The DVD is nice because the menu has all the songs available to listen to at your preference. The length is about 40 minutes. This is a great buy, and I highly recommend it!
MUCH better than "The Great Numbers Game" October 5, 2000 SuperOdie34 (Salisbury, MD United States) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
When Ernie drops by "The Furry Arms" hotel to return a missing key he found, he ends up giving everyone a lesson in counting, and also ends up getting hired as hotel manager! Ernie soon discovers that when he "Dings The Dinger", Benny The Bunny (Kevin Clash-who also does Elmo) will bring him something different everytime, depending on the number of times he dings. For example, when Ernie dings 3 times, Benny brings 3 pillows. Ernie however, does not need the pillows, and tells Benny he's glad he now knows what happens when he dings 3 times. This running gag goes during the entire video, and it gets quite funny. Most of the segments in this video are well chosen, such as a neat segment with singing crows, and the fantastic "Honk Around The Clock"! I also find the new songs very catchy, and have found myself sing them quite often! This not only gets five stars becalse it's much better then "The Great Numbers Game", but also becalse it's extremely funny! In recent years, The Furry Arms seems to have been deleted from the show. Why? It was such a great place, and I liked Natasha's parents having a job! Oh, well. At least we have this video!
Bad Influence April 7, 2003 13 out of 16 found this review helpful
There is so much to love about the SS approach to teaching children, but this video is a grave disappointment. Throughout the video this bunny with a rotten attitude screams at everyone for little to no reason. With small children imitating everything they see, this is harmful exposure for behaviour development. I also agree with the review about Elmo. I have a growing annoyance with listening to Elmo speak in the third person. Come on! Are you educational or not?
terrible September 30, 2005 eatyourfruitsandvegetables (los angeles, CA) 13 out of 19 found this review helpful
The screaming bunny is just terrible. He's not funny, and he introduced my daughter to downright meanness. I'd sell this dvd, but I don't want it to affect any other kids!
