3 out of 5 stars WHY DO THE SAME REVIEWS APPEAR FOR ALL SIX BOXED SETS?   September 21, 2008
JACK LOBO (Greenwich,CT USA)
Answer; Amazon is too lazy to separate them. There's even the same reviews for the VHS tapes. But that's not my major issue. The major issue is the packaging. How can a *****star classic comedy get a *star dvd treatment? Why can't someone have the decency to put this on 1/2 of the amount of discs in a nice package? Considering the 4 discs per package run approximately 425 minutes, and max time a single sided disc can hold is roughly 210 minutes, there's no reason other than greed and laziness that a much better complete series box set can't occur. I'll tell you something else that won't occur. Me buying the current boxed sets.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for any Jackie Gleason/Honeymooners Fan!!   May 10, 2008

Though not as clear or crisp as the (so called) MAIN "39 episode" Collection. It's a small price to pay for these classic, rare episodes of The Honeymooners. Although they vary in length of time and some episodes are funnier than others, watching Gleason, Carney, Meadows and Randolph work their magical chemistry together is, as always thouroghly enjoyable. I HIGHLY recommend this collection to any fan of Jackie Gleason, The Honeymooners or of classic comedies that stand the test of time. I will most anxiously be completing my own collection soon.

4 out of 5 stars Great Gift!   January 8, 2008
Marie-france Mercier (Montreal, QC, Canada)
I bought this boxed set as a gift for my father this Christmas and he went crazy for it. The same box set was 25$ more expensive through one of the main department store retailers here in Canada. I have heard nothing but great reviews from my parents, who are both thrilled with this product. Really and truly a great purchase value that will be sure to put a lot of smiles (and grins) on a lot of the Honeymooners fans' faces out there!

5 out of 5 stars Better quality picture? Remastering?   August 31, 2006

I'm a big HMer fan and consider the work between these four actors funny, touching and timeless. If you don't like certain episodes, fine; To each his own. I do have to scratch my head about those reviewers who take exception to the picture quality; That the DVD should be clearer than the original VHS releases. Are they aware that the "Lost Episodes"
are "Kinescopes" and not "Film" like the "Classic 39". Up until 1957 most TV sitcoms and all variety shows were broadcast live with no means to record the transmission. (Networks wouldn't film most shows due to the expense involved.(Multiple cameras, editing, developing etc.) "Lucy" was an exception. ) Standard practice was to use a single "Film" camera focused on a studio moniter during the actual performance. This would then be quickly developed and shown several hours later for the west coast. These resulting "Moniter films" are "Kinescopes "and they are no where near as clear as film, the images look crammed into the screen since the film camera was slightly "zoomed in" so as not to get the edges of the live moniter. In '57 video tape was introduced and shows that weren't filmed were at least preserved for posterity on videotape. I doubt any modern technology could undo the qualities of a Kinescope. These are treasures from the early TV age. I personally wouldn't be so picky about the picture quality. These shows are what they are; Great comedy thankfully preserved in a primitive medium. Think of all the shows that weren't Kinescoped. They were seen once and were gone, lost in the ethos of time and space! Anyway, I'll take Kinescoped Honeymooners over any number of digitally recorded reality shows today.
