Don't WASTE your MONEY -- OR -- DAMAGE YOUR EARS!!! May 23, 2007 C. LeBlanc 9 out of 21 found this review helpful
Not only do these NOT work -- but when considering RISK vs. REWARD -- even IF they worked... it's just not worth it!! I've used similar "ear candles" once before -- and was suckered in to the notion that they actually worked, after cutting them open to see the "end result"... which I was led to believe was MY (ear) wax. Turns out, what it really was, was nothing more than the CANDLE's WAX, which THANKFULLY, had Not Entered My Ear (which can cause severe burns & permanent DAMAGE, even HOLES IN YOUR EAR DRUM). Anyway - so this time around, when my seasonal allergies started acting up again & I could feel (and hear) the excess fluid building up in my ears --- I figured I'd give them another go. After searching CVS, Walgreens, Wal-Mart, etc. etc. & coming up empty handed -- I finally turned to the Internet... where they were in great supply. (Now I know why NO RESPECTABLE PLACE OF BUSINESS WILL SELL THESE) While waiting for them to arrive, I wanted to brush up on the "instructions" since it'd been a while since I last used them (also the only other time). It's then that I came across (though Google) COUNTLESS MEDICAL PAGES & REVIEWS, WARNING AGAINST THESE "CANDLES" - and giving Countless HORROR STORIES OF "CANDLING" GONE WRONG... and that when tested - EVERY BIT OF WAX OR "DEBRIS" FOUND INSIDE A USED "CANDLE" --- WAS FROM THE CANDLE ITSELF -- NOT, I REPEAT, NOT, FROM THE USER'S EAR. Now - obviously I heeded these warnings... but still, I'm a skeptical person. And from what I could remember about my 1st time, was that 1 "Candle" had a whole lot of "wax" in it at the end, and the other barely had any (1 from each ear). So I thought MAYBE it was just the Medical Community trying to get rid of "ear drop competition" by bad-mouthing the "ear candles"..... after all, no matter what the subject is: Religion, Medical, Scientific -- there are ALWAYS studies supporting either side of a claim. (just look at the EGG: Egg whites Vs. Egg yolks, bad, then good, then bad, then good -- and they still don't know) So - CAUTIOUSLY & with "supervision" (never attempt alone... hell, never attempt AT ALL) I put 1 candle in my right ear - burned it accordingly.... Nothing. No Ear-Wax... the tube was completely HOLLOW at the end... aside from a small "runner" of BeesWax which had dripped down toward my ear canal. So, thinking I'd not "sealed it around me ear canal properly" -- tried the Left ear... this time, making sure it was good & tightly sealed. I did notice a great addition to the "hissing" noises, and what FEELS & SOUNDS LIKE "SUCTION"... but -- not only was there NO Ear Wax at the end.... there wasn't even any BeesWax in the tube on this one.... it was COMPLETELY HOLLOW. It didn't suck ANYTHING out... and luckily, didn't let anything drip down in either. It seems, the reason my 1st experience had the result that it did -- was due to the Parafin Wax that was used to make it.... and that these candles, while they didn't produce the same result as the others -- (1) still presented a danger to my ear canal ========= and worst of all ======= that's all it did. These come with all sorts of warnings (seen above & on the packaging itself) that read basically: You're an idiot for using this... and if you hurt yourself, we're not liable - this is a "home remedy" only... blah blah blah. I don't know about you guys, but when I think of "Home Remedies" -- I think of "Chicken Noodle soup"; and all the other foods, plants, etc. - used for soothing, or "healing" purposes. NONE OF THOSE HOWEVER -- WILL SEVERLY INJURE (or even slightly injure) THE USER - IF NOT TAKEN TO EXACT SPECIFICATIONS!!!! Steer clear of this hocus pocus - mumbo jumbo... that some Douche thought of when he/she had left over Beeswax, which was unsuitable for making into Honey or whatever! IT DOES NOT WORK - READ THE REVIEWS, WARNINGS, & "TESTIMONIALS" (google search on "ear candles") & CAN ONLY DO YOU HARM. Do yourself a favor - if something's wrong with your ears - take them to a DOCTOR (or up to a CVS / Walgreens / etc. -- and get some OTC Drops if you can't afford a Doctor or Prescription Drops!)
Work well! December 15, 2007 Tash (Florida) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I've been using these since I was young, b/c I have issues with ear wax build up to the point where I cannot hear, get dizzy, and migrain like headaches. These always work, although I do have to use more than one usually b/c its so bad. I am reviewing after reading the previous 1 star review. I can tell the difference between the wax from the candle and the wax fromm my ear after looking inside. Both color, and smell are different. (yuck) I have tried drops, and all the other dr. recommended ways to get rid of buildup and they have in fact only made it worse for me. The only thing that works better than these is a visit to the ENT who takes it out with a little hook. And b/c I have no insurance, this is our choice. Anyway, Definetly use with someone helping you, and follow the directions. We lie with my head in my husbands lap, and he holds the candle. It does work, and the proof is in the face that after I canhear again. Good luck!

These are super.... I know alot of people don't believe they work but they do for daughter & myself. I guess that is all that matters. If your riding the fence about buying them it is worth a shot to see if they help your ears.
