I absolutely adore this perfume. I am someone who upon receiving a magazine in the mail, immediately tears out all of the perfume samples. Most of the scents I find annoying -- a headache, itchy-twitchy nose and sore throat waiting to happen.
I love 4711 because I've found it's nothing like anything else that's out there. I've been advised that Cool Water is similar and given it a sniff test, but to me, it's not even close.
In addition I come from a German family, so 4711 is a very familiar scent, quite popular there (though I can't say if it is as beloved now as it once was), though here in the U.S. it's probably more exotic, Old Country, but I like the sense of tradition it holds for me personally, and I love the scent, with its notes of bergamot, lemon and orange, middle notes of rosemary and rose and the base of musk, petitgrain and neroli. It's very bracing, refreshing, smells clean, not overtly feminine, either. Not like some flower and fragrance bomb.
It's reminiscent of spring and summer, fresh air and ocean breezes perhaps. But it's not sickly sweet or overpowering, and if you love citrusy scents in particular, you could like this very much.

At last I have found the object of my desire....a bottle of 4711! Fabulous scent, fresh, vibrant and refreshing. Undescribable fragrance...a little bit of this, a little bit of that, but a completely unique and original aroma. First discovered 4711 in 1983 in "Germany" in EPCOT Center in Orlando, Florida. Have been searching since. Thank goodness for Amazon! Many friends who travel in Europe love it too. "Even the bottle is beutiful!"

The scent of fresh orange is absolutely best. I am also using 4711 hair tonic. It is rather hard to find it, but I recommend you to use it.

4711 Cologne is an excellent product - I've been using it for 30 years as an after shower splash, after shave and all-around refresher. No lingering perfumy smell.
