Product Description To broaden the angle of your view, the Wide Converter WC-DC58N is available for the G3. Or if you want to pull back a little more, Tele-converter TC-DC58N is available. Both accessories require Conversion Lens Adapter LA-DC58B to be used with the camera.

A wider, but not painless, view for Canon G-series February 13, 2005 Matthew Phillips (Richmond, VA USA) 140 out of 144 found this review helpful
As a rule, I'm not a big fan of screw-in auxillary lenses for cameras - due to their many compromises - but sometimes the standard lens on the Canon G5 (or G3 or G6) doesn't have the wide angle scope that's called for. Other brand converters made for the Canon G may be smaller, but are prone to vignetting (image darkening in picture corners) and more obvious sharpness fall-off. This Canon lens attachment is sharp, gives good coverage and little fall-off. It's angle of view is somewhere between 24 and 28mm compared to standard the 35mm film format, and often it's just wide enough to do the trick. Now for the trade-offs: Its a big and cumbersome hunk of glass - the built-in optical viewfinder and flash are covered, so you'll need to use your display screen to frame and add a shoe mounted flash (further adding to bulk). Also quite apparent is a measure of barrel distortion: straight lines near the edge of the picture bow outward. To be fair, this problem is far more common among digital wide-angles than for film cameras, but its a pain if your expecting similar results to what you once easily captured on 35mm film; if you're shooting architectural subjects, or anything where you want straight lines to remain straight, this can be a real frustration. There are Photoshop plug-ins that are designed to correct this sort of distortion, but this software has its own learning curve and can be hit-or-miss. Finally, this lens is prone to purple color-fringing near the frame edges and around bright highlights. Again, software can fix this to some degree after the fact, but its yet another step in the image editing process. Its worth having in your camera bag if scenic vistas are your thing, but plan on spending a bit more time editing your shots in Photoshop.
Worthless! December 28, 2006 Alan Wray (San Martin, CA USA) 14 out of 20 found this review helpful
This adapter vignettes badly at wide-angle settings on my A700, so much so that the field of view for which there is no vignetting is essentially identical to that without the adapter at the widest setting of the regular lens. Thus absolutely nothing has been gained by using the adapter. Canon, normally a responsible firm with many excellent products, is beneath contempt in marketing this lens. I called Canon customer service and spoke with a sympathetic representative who took the matter up with "someone else". The outcome was that they admit that there "is very little increase" in the non-vignetted field of view by using this adapter. She said she would put my comments on a company-internal problem compilation called "customer voice". I can only hope it reaches someone high enough to do some good!
Great lens for the money November 3, 2006 Michael A. Bair 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I thought twice before buying this lens. It wasn't designed specifically for my Canon A620, it required the purchase of an adapter ring, and it blocks the flash. Having said that, the lens feels good on the camera (even with Canon's plastic adapter) and the pictures are what I was hoping for. I use it all the time. It's great for assembling panoramics, and doesn't suffer from any unexpected distortions (beyond the horizontal bending you get from any wide angle lens). Highly recommended.
Wide Angle adapter from Canon June 29, 2007 V. Shrader (Utah) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I purchased the WC-DC58N along with the adapter converter LA-DC58G. At first I was very disappointed because each of the corners were rounded off, making for a vignetted effect. Then I read the manual that came with my Canon A710 where it instructed to turn on a Converter setting on the camera using the Menu AND remove the small ring on the LA-DC58G. Now the photos look great and no black around the edges. The lens is larger than I expected but it should do a great job at taking inside shots of rooms (with no flash) which is why I purchased it.

If u r like me that likes to take pictures of the places visited and like to capture the atmosphere of the place this lens will do. The Pictures are not perfect but they are good enough.
