Product Description When you find yourself in a tight spot, trying to tighten a hard-to-reach nut, this Black & Decker 8" Automatic Adjustable Wrench will save the day. Powered by 2 AAA batteries, the AAW100 helps you get a grip in cirumstances where you normally couldn't. What a helpful home maintenance tool! Battery Life - 650 Cycles Black & Decker 2 Year Warranty
Amazon.com Product Description Manually adjusting a wrench to fit particular nuts and bolts can be a real hassle, especially in tight spaces. Enter Black & Decker's battery-powered Auto Wrench, a phenomenally handy tool that opens and closes with the push of a button. Boasting 220 foot-pounds of torque, this wrench is powerful enough to handle most household tasks, from car repair to fixing leaks. The Auto Wrench is not meant to replace specialty tools like pipe or torque wrenches, but the jaws open wide enough (up to 1-1/4-inch) so that it could conceivably replace a range of manual wrenches sitting in your toolkit. This is an ideal product for someone looking to buy a wrench that's both easy to use and versatile. At 8-inches, you could toss it in the silverware drawer and whip it out when you need it. The area where this wrench really shines is in hard-to-reach spots where mobility is obscured, such as under sinks. A typical situation where the Auto Wrench would help might be one in which you're awkwardly reaching for a nut underneath the kitchen faucet. With a comparable manual wrench, it's conceivable you would fumble around with the adjusting mechanism for minutes on end, and then toss a fit. With the Auto Wrench, you'd simply press a button (positioned where you rest your thumb) and the jaws would open or close to your specifications. We were a bit skeptical when we learned the Auto Wrench takes AA batteries and doesn't include a rechargeable battery. This means you'll need to keep some extra batteries around the house - or buy some rechargeable batteries -- if you use it frequently. However, the wrench isn't a power hog by any means. Black & Decker says you can get 650 cycles out of two AA batteries, which should be plenty for most people. What's in the box Wrench, AA batteries The Black & Decker Story Two young entrepreneurs, S. Duncan Black and Alonzo G. Decker, founded a small machine shop in Baltimore, Maryland. They called it The Black & Decker Manufacturing Company. The company is the world's largest producer of power tools and accessories. Its household products business is the U.S. leader and among global competitors in the small household appliance industry

They must have some geniuses working at Black and Decker! June 22, 2006 Dennis W. Mau 68 out of 75 found this review helpful
This is the best new tool to come along in twenty years. What a great idea and excellent implementation of it. This is the coolest crescent wrench I have ever seen. It makes it so easy to work on projects where you have different size nuts to tighten and especially when working where space is limited. The electric adjustment on the wrench is amazingly quick. I mean you hit the switch and it's snug up against the nut ready for you to start turning. This wrench is not fragile either. It can apply as much torque as a regular crescent wrench. It is amazing that it is not that much bigger than a regular wrench. It will fit in all thoses tight nooks and crannies where sometimes you need to get a wrench into. Amazon doesn't have any in stock yet so I found mine at Lowes Hardware. The Thornton Colorado store sold their whole display in one day. I drove up to the Longmont Lowes to get one and it was well worth it. GREAT TOOL!
Can not compete with a real wrench set October 1, 2006 Jeffrey S. Alek (Annandale, VA) 45 out of 51 found this review helpful
First tried to use this wrench to remove copper piping from a laundry sink. Wrench simply would not grip the nuts, it does not close tight enough; at least for that application. Only thing it was good for was taking to the tool chest to size the craftsman wrench I needed. I does work fairly well on most nuts, but still can not compete with a quality wrench set. I am going to put it in the emergency kit in my truck. I guess if space really is an issue, it is a good buy.
Not a useful tool April 26, 2007 S. Choi (Cincinnati, OH USA) 39 out of 47 found this review helpful
I bought this wrench because it looks so innovative. When I had it in my hands, I realized that my assumption was wrong. The reasons are: 1. The switch is at an awkward location. My thumb is not there when I grab the wrench. 2. The power of the motor is too weak. So there is no feeling that the jaw is tightened. 3. The shape of the handle is far from ergonomic. It usally slips out from hand. 4. Overall size is too bulky. So it is not agile enough. One day, there must be an occasion when this wrench can be helpful (I hope), so I just keep it.
Missing the mark February 24, 2007 P. Testart (Chula Vista California) 22 out of 25 found this review helpful
Black and decker really blew this one. This is a crude sloppy piece of work. It does not really do anything well but tries to do 2 or 3 things badly or sloppily. There is a much better strictly mechanical wrench sold at home depot that has all of the supposed virtues of this wrench but is of quality workmanship for the same or less money. The Gift for the Tool Hound that has Everything December 6, 2007 Atomicwasteland (North Bethesda, MD USA) 21 out of 24 found this review helpful
I bought this for my father, a "toolhound", who has every old-timey tool on earth. Originally I sort of bought it as a gag, but when I got in the mail and tested it out after opening, I was actually impressed. First of all, this thing is huge. You can use it to tighten relatively big bolts. (There are measurement marks carved on the jaws of the wrench and it shows that it can accomodate a bolt head 1.25 inches wide.) Second, the opening and closing is almost instantaneous. I thought it would be a lot slower. No. Instead, when you open it (by the press of a button) the wrench shoots open, and when you close it, it slams closed. It seems perfectly safe, as I put my finger in the "maw" of the device and closed it (just to see what it would do...) As soon as the jaws reached my finger, they stopped immediately -barely applying any pressure. So, if there are little kids around this is not likely to pinch anyone's fingers... One thing I was thinking about after I bought this was how useful it would be to someone who had problems with their hands. You really can see how you could easily wield the tool with one hand, and with a limited range of motion. I was pleasantly surprised by this product, and think it makes a great Christmas gift!
