I PURCHASED THIS CAMERA FOR SECURITY INSIDE MY RESIDENCE. THE CAMERA WAS EASY TO INSTALL WITH THE INCLUDED SOFTWARE AND AXIS SUPPORT. I AM NOW ABLE TO ACCESS THIS CAMERA FROM ANYWHERE THAT I HAVE ACCESS TO A COMPUTER AND CHECK ON THE STATUS OF MY HOME. THE QUALITY OF COLOR IMAGE AT THIS PRICE RANGE WAS IMPRESSIVE, AND I AM ABLE TO TAKE A SNAP SHOT OF ANY ACTIVITY THAT I MIGHT OBSERVE, AND SAVE IT TO MY HARD DRIVE. THIS CAMERA REQUIRES A CAT 5 CABLE CONNECTION, AND ELECTRIC IN ORDER FOR IT TO OPERATE. I CONNECTED MINE TO A LINKSYS WIRELESS ROUTER.
Poor Support, Watch out February 26, 2008 R. Oneill (Somewhere, out there, watching) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have purchased quite a few Axis products and have never had to use them for support. I recently went to upgrade the firmware and the firmware update bricked the camera. I went to Axis for support and they essentially were useless. Even though all indications were ok for the firmware upgrade the camera was no longer working (the camera worked 100% before). I contacted Axis for troubleshooting on the issue and they did not read the steps I went through before contacting them; i.e., they didn't bother to take the time to even read the trouble ticket before responding. Their response? reboot/reset to factory settings. I replied I had done that and they replied they could no longer assist me because I bought the camera too long ago. Well, Axis still supports the camera version on their website by issuing patches and firmware. However, apparently, if you use them, you use them at your own peril. They will provide zero support if anything goes wrong applying "their" firmware patch to fix bugs they initially had in their product. Axis makes a good camera, but if it breaks, count on just purchasing another one; and never, never apply any firmware or software upgrades if the camera is in working order.
I've had the 206 for YEARS February 17, 2008 SirBenzealot (Charleston, SC) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I've had the Axis 206 for over three years now. It's good as new. It was new technology and much more expensive back then. I bought it to monitor the house for comfort when away. I used to have a D-Link camera, and OH what frustration (Piece of Debris.) The Axis has MUCH higher quality, reliability, ease of use, and a "finished" user interface. Simple, clean, full featured, and it works! All the time! You're only paying a few extra dollars for a serious and professional camera company. I'm actually online looking to buy a second camera for surveillance of the garage. Doing all the reviews, I have come back to Axis. Axis quality and support is fantastic. Although, This camera has the C-Mos technology not the CCD, so if NO light is present there may be a few pixels fixed "on," but with any image in LOW light they disappear. In Normal lighting, the picture quality is sharp and excellent. E-mail Camera Quality. Then, with any very low wattage light in the room, the scene is bright as day ... perfectly usable for surveillance. I selected the "White Balance" for "Fixed Outdoor" and the colors in the Livingroom are true day and night. I have the 206 connected to a D-Link router with no problems.
serverless webcam August 16, 2007 Ottokrat (San Jose, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This camera has good detail for just 640x480. It hooks up to ethernet and contains a full webserver in just that tiny box, and so I don't need to leave any server or laptop running. I use it at my vacation home so I can see the property over the web when I'm not there.
Very good little Camera April 14, 2008 C. Walker It works well for the price. Good quality picture and 30 frams per second. Using as a security camera and it has works well.
