1 out of 5 stars BAD BAD BAD Customer service (tech support)   June 30, 2004

The product is great overall. However the 8x10" size is a bit misleading. It FITS an 8x10" frame, but the actuall screen size is a bit smaller, about 6 1/4" x 8 1/4".

However, the reason I give it only one start is because of Pacific Digital's customer service.

I couldn't connect to my frame via the wireless network from my desktop system. USB worked fine though. I spent ~3 hours with their tech support last week and they couldn't fix it. I asked that it be escalated to their engineers and they promised me that I'd get a call from an engineer by this Tuesday. It's now Weds. and no call.

So, I brought my work laptop home and hooked it up to the wireless network, installed the frame management software and everything worked just fine. I call tech support up to a) Let them know what happened with the laptop and b) find out when I'm going to get to talk to an engineer. Their response was that the frame is obviously working and there was nothing more they could do other than to suggest reformatting my hard disk (NOT an option.)

I pointed out, to no avail, that their software is failing to function as advertised. They still refused to work on it any further. I asked to be transfered to an engineer. I was put on hold for several minutes only to be told that they're all "busy."

Having worked in technical support for ten years, and with computers for 20 years, I found this totally unacceptable.

I'm going to try and get it working myself, but if I can't get it going in the next few hours I'm going to return the product.

I will never do business with Pacific Digital again.

2 out of 5 stars I wanted so badly for this to work...   November 16, 2004

I can't say for sure that my experience was typical, but I can say that it was horrible.

The short version is: I had to return it once for a screen failure, then I had to return the replacement for a screen failure (and a refund).

In between the returns, I spent a significant amount of time on the phone with customer support. The manual was inadequate, especially for the wireless stuff. I also had problems with Windows (Network Bridging, I think) that further complicated things.

For the brief time the two units worked, I was pleased. The picture quality was good, and once running, I had no problems with the software.

I take a lot of digital photos. This would have been the perfect compliment.

I gave the Memory Frame two stars (instead of one) because, in between failures and configuration problems, I was pleased with the quality of the display.

Too bad I couldn't say the same about the quality control.

5 out of 5 stars Wi-Fi Digital Frame was easy   September 16, 2004

I've tested the other Pacific Digital frames and the feature of using any standard 8x10 frame is really what I like the most. I got this unit (which comes with a Dlink USB to 802.11b dongle) and tested it with my Linksys router. After configuring windows correctly (which they now have posted on the web site), I was able to see the frame from my PC with the bundled software. There was a small learning curve, but I really like this method of copying over photos instead of wires. It takes about the same amount of time and you can name the frames if you have mulitple units (like living room, office, etc).

Overall this has the best resolution of the units I've seen and removing wires is GOOOOD.

Well, after several hours of tracking processes, disabling services, uninstalling software, etc., I finally figured out why the picture transfer software wouldn't work over the wireless network!

If you get this product and are unable to get connectivity to the frame via the wireless network, try disabling the network bridge. You'll find this under Start > Control Panel > Network Connections. Right click on "Network bridge" and choose DISABLE. You may be particularly prone to this problem if you're running Windows XP Home edition. Seems to be installed automatically as I KNOW I did not install it.

Also, I forgot to mention that Pacific Digital doesn't include any directions on how to set the frame up for use on the wireless network. All the instructions are about using a USB connection. You have to call their tech support and have them email you the document or find it buried in their downloads section on their web site. Lets see, they can slap a sticker on the box saying it's wireless enabled, they can put a USB wireless adapter IN the box, but they can't put instructions on how to set it up IN the box! DOH!

Pros: Great resolution. Nice packaging. Excellent door stop.
Cons: Stopped working after 3 weeks. Horrible overall quality. No customer support what so ever since I didn't have a receipt (ebay purchase).

Tried contacting the ebay seller for receipt, never got a response now I'm stuck with a 360 dollar dead weight. Tried contacting pacificdigital they offered a none warranty repair for $199. Becareful what you purchase on ebay specially pacificdigital products.
