Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Bose Companion 2 speakers give new voice to your computer desktop. Odds are, your computeris a primary source of entertainment. So why rely on standard computer speakers with so much rich content at your fingertips? Step up to Companion 2 speakers and unleash your computer's true potential with powerful, full-range sound for CDs, DVDs, MP3s, streaming videos, games and more. These deliver both the subtleties in your music and the rousing resonance of movie and game sound effects. Think of them as giving new voice to your computer. And with Bose TrueSpace stereo signal processing, that voice really has some reach. Experience a spacious, dramatic soundstage that seems to extend beyond the desktop speakers?whether you've set them next to your monitor or placed them farther apart. You'll also appreciate the clear, robust response for those challenging low musical notes and sound effects. Dual inputs enable the speakers to be used with your computer as well as a second audio source, such as a portable MP3 or CD player. They are magnetically shielded to prevent interference with your monitor. Bose 1-Year Limited Warranty

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic value   September 1, 2008

Bought these to add some better sound to a stereo 32" TV. Very pleased. Bought them at BJs wholesale club for $59 plus tax.
Strong base for small speakers. Built-in amp. Using RCA plugs from TV to Speaker. A great way to easily improve the sound of a TVs little built-in speakers.

2 out of 5 stars Great reputation, horrible design   July 25, 2008

I purchased the Companion 2 as a backup to my Bose MediaMate speakers. Both cost around the same retail wise. I am highly disappointed by the sound i get out of the Companion 2 speakers. The bass is soo pumped up you cant hear the lighter tones. When Listening to one of my favorites Slayer songs the guitar riff completely disappears just like it did on the BOSE 141 speakers. I also found that turning up the volume doesn't help any. If anything it distorts the music.

I would highly recommend that if you want a pair of "GOOD" Bose speakers look for the mediamate. they are far superior.

Never got the item. Order accepted 28 May and by late June I am asking questions. Bottom line is Amazon had the vendor refund my purchase price 100%. I am sure Bose Speakers are great.

5 out of 5 stars Shazam! Knocked my socks off for the price...   March 14, 2008

I purchased the Bose Companion II Computer Speakers to make up for the shortcomings of a flat-panel monitor with integrated rear-facing speakers. Out of the box, my new monitor sounded like a tin can...I turned the volume up all the way on the computer only to find that the "integrated" speakers couldn't cope, so it was off to Sam's Club for replacements.

I purchased some Bose MediaMate speakers for an older computer several years ago, and was unhappy with the experience. I bought the speakers at a Bose outlet for about $130, and they never did function properly due to a faulty cable connection.

However, after listening to the Companion II speakers in-store and reading generally positive reviews, I decided on these instead of the Companion III system, which featured a blocky subwoofer and mountable cube speakers (I didn't want to risk alienating the neighbors with a cranked-up bass). Setup was a breeze; I simply popped them out of the box, plugged them in, and away I went.

The difference was instant (and amazing). Instead of the tinny computer speakers, with Bose Shrek III now sounded like it was in a theater, with a becoming richness and resonance and a powerful bass to underscore the onscreen action. The speakers sound equally good when applied to jazz, classical, or anything else you can throw at them.

The Bose Companion speakers provide rich, full sound with a good range of highs and lows; one downside is the inability to physically adjust levels (the speakers do so automatically), although you can go in through your control panel and do so. Also, a remote would have been nice, but for the price, these provide excellent sound for the money. There are dual audio inputs, so you can use these with your computer as well as portable audio devices such as MP3 players or CD players.

5 out of 5 stars Long-standing surprise   February 29, 2008
T. J. Dunnigan (San Diego, CA United States)
I've owned these speakers for over three years and continue to be surprised by the sound quality. I've tried over seven other desktop speakers (without subwoofer boxes) and find none that meet or exceed the sound quality and range I obtain with these Bose (listening to Flamenco, Classical and Jazz, primarily.)

Additionally, I find they look stylish on my desk.

I'm likely to purchase a second set for my (work) office.
