Impressively small device with very limited range. February 15, 2008 Richard Macdonald (Logan, UT) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I purchased this device mostly for listening to music. The size is very impressive as its about the size of a penny. Unfortunately the range is also very small, about ten feet from the device and the music starts cutting out.
Works but with a HUGE problem July 30, 2008 PNS (Boston, MA) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
The unit works well with any devices that I personally have paired it with ie. cell phones, headsets, stereo headsets, and another computer. However, when the radio is on when you turn the computer on, there are 2 processes TOSOBEX.EX and SERVICES.EXE that will take up most if not all your CPU cycle. This slows down the computer very much. This happens even when there are no devices paired with the unit. I have installed the unit on 2 other machines with the same results. So, somehow the Toshiba Stack that comes with this unit takes up CPU cycles when the bluetooth radio is turned on. This happens on my laptop and 2 desktops. Once those services are on, there is no way to turn it off except to reboot the machine. However, PRIOR to rebooting the machine, TURN the bluetooth radio off first. That way when the computer is rebooted, those services will not be on. The one workaround that I did was to RENAME the TOSOBEX.EXE file to something else like BAD_TOSOBEX.EXE_BAD. That way it won't get invoked when you turn the bluetooth radio on. That means that you WILL NOT have OBEX capability. Kensington Techincal Support so far has been USELESS. But, I'm still trying to get to people there who actually know what they are talking about. Also, on the cosmetic side, the unit has VERY SHARP corners. Be careful when you are handling your laptop (if you are using it on a laptop); I have been scratched multiple times by its corners.
tiny ... very tiny ... and it works February 27, 2008 B. Younis 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Been struggling with Bluetooth dongles to work with Vista and Toshiba Bluetooth stack. What a mess that is, bought the Kensington, worked flawlessly I can keep in the laptop without worrying about it sheering or braking off. I use it to sync my mobile phone, thus range is not important. It works for wireless stereo bluetooth on a headset. apparently they are doing everything by embedded software from the supplied Toshiba stack. Thus the small antena.
Very small March 7, 2008 David Uribe (Medellin, Colombia) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Excellent product, its size is impressive and it's so small you even think its part of your notebook or pc.
Not very satisfied with overall quality July 29, 2008 Langston J. Montgomery (Laguna Niguel, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Pros: Small, convenient for laptop bag Cons: Very low range, not compatible with headset I bought the Insignia bluetooth headphones for work, but needed to buy another adapter for my home. On the plus side, the adapter is small so you don't need to remove it from your laptop when taking it in and out of your laptop bag. -- While the adapter does transmit sound to the headphones just fine, none of the buttons on the headphones work correctly. For example, let's say I'm playing music using ITunes. If I try to pause the music I'm listening to by pushing the pause button on my headphones, suddenly Windows Media Player opens. On the other hand, if I'm using the adapter that came with the headphones, it does in fact pause ITunes. -- Albeit there's nothing technically wrong, the range on this product is not the de facto range of 10M for most bluetooth devices. I can only get about 15 feet. The fact that the range is not advertised should serve as a clue to the consumer that its range is sub par.
