Well worth the money, fine for the average photographer May 24, 2004 68 out of 69 found this review helpful
I bought the Sunpak 8001UT after a friend had bought the Sunpak 6601UT and was very satisfied. The only reason I went "up" to the 8001 was it qualified for free shipping (just over $25) whereas the 6601 didn't. For the price, the build quality is excellent and should serve the average consumer well. It is not what you would call bullet-proof by any means, but treated with a reasonable amount of care there doesn't seem to be any reason why this tripod won't outlast your next 2 or 3 digital cameras. The hinges on the stabilizing bars are rivets, that seems to be about the weakest point I could identify on the unit, but still seem sturdy enough. It's lightweight, folds fairly compact, and has been stable enough for me even on somewhat windy days. I couldn't be more pleased considering the price. It's amazing what $26.99 will get you, especially considering that these days the same amount of money will only get one of my two gas tanks on my truck half full!
Best tri-pod I've owned. June 18, 2004 Corey Brennan (Milford, CT USA) 66 out of 68 found this review helpful
This is my fourth tripod. The ones I have had previous to this one have all felt cheap and weak. One collapsed with my $400 camcorder on top of it. This tripod looks and feels sturdy. The legs have some weight to them and don't feel like they will collapse under the weight of my equipment. Honestly, I was going to get the 6601, but with this one I got the super saver shipping (Thanks to the recommendation of one of the other reviewers), but I am completely satisfied with this product. I like the bubble levels. I used them this past weekend to take a family reunion portrait in my back yard. I plan on taking it to the beach this summer for another family portrait (on my wife's side).
Durable and lightweight - a really nice tripod! August 30, 2005 Krishna M. Sadasivam (Tampa, FL USA) 26 out of 26 found this review helpful
I purchased the Sunpak tripod after doing some research online. The other positive reviews of this tripod on Amazon helped sway my decision to purchase it. In short, the Sunpak delivers. It easily opens and closes, and has a quick detach lever you can use to quickly remove the camera from the tripod should you need to follow the action. Once locked in position, the tripod stays locked. It's incredibly versatile in its adjustment. A small level bubble comes with the detachable mount; you can use this to ensure your camera is straight and not at an awkward angle. As a professional wedding videographer, I can't praise this tripod enough. The Sunpak is exceptionally sturdy while being lightweight. It's also easily transportable, and the price is reasonable. I highly recommend it.
Easily Broken January 22, 2004 Robin (Englewood, CO United States) 20 out of 22 found this review helpful
I really like this product except that I have had to return it because the three arms that connect to the three legs from the center post were broken off from the legs. The one sent to me to replace my return had two of these same connections broken the second time around - geez! Don't want to deal with it anymore.
finally our whole family is in the same pic and we do not have to ask someone to take our pic September 8, 2005 Vaid (OK, USA) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
i bought this one at amazon and am very happy with it. i used it when i went to a national park and it was absolutely awesome to use. i didnt need a very expensive tripod. This one is light enough to carry. fits ok in a bigger backpack. easy to open and sets up fast. 2 plates come with it which is very required if u have 2 cams like us. it is not very flimsy, legs are individually adjustable which helps on a slope. also we have used in windy areas too and there it didnt shake and it even has spiky feet to keep it steady ....good... the height is really good as it comes almost to my eye level ie 162 cms( I do not remember the exact height of this tripod right now) U really need a tripod this high if u want good pictures. i have found it to serve my purpose real well. also it is real easy and fast to put in the camera using the quick release mount. i did a lot of research when looking for this tripod and and this one fitted the best for specifications and money too.
