Electronic Flash EF-500 DG SUPER is designed to work with both AF 35mm SLR and Digital SLR cameras of popular manufacturers, for advanced flash photography. It has a maximum guide number of 165 in feet or 50 in meter at 105mm focal length (ISO 100). The projection angle of the flashlight is set automatically to match the lens' focal length ranging from 28mm wide-angle to 105mm medium-telephoto. It also incorporates a built-in diffuser that expands the angle of illumination down to that of 17mm lens.It enables full automatic flash photography by TTL automatic flash exposure control. It now includes S-TTL flash photography for Sigma, 3-D multi-sensor balanced fill flash function and iD-TTL flash photography for Nikon, E-TTL II flash photography for Canon, ADI flash photography and P-TTL flash photography for Minolta.For bounce flash it can be tilted 90? upwards and 7? downward for close-ups. Also it can be swiveled 180? to the left and 90? to the right. It incorporates "modeling flash" mode to provide proper light distribution to check the shadow of the subject. The multi pulse flash features enable reduced power setting from 1/4 to 1/128 in 6 steps and the pulse frequency of the flash can be set from 1Hz to 199Hz. EF-500 DG SUPER incorporates wireless TTL flash photography, slave flash photography, and FP flash photography (synchronized with high shutter speeds). In addition, manual flash also can be set at 8 output power levels. The covering focal length of the flashlight can be seen on the LCD panel, and a flash ready signal can be seen in the viewfinder. The EF-500 DG SUPER also incorporates auto power off system.

Very nice, accurate and filled with endless of cool futures flash.
It has the modeling light, it works as wireless flash controller, it has multi-flash ratio mode, and so on.
Very nice professional item.

Due to the feature richness of this flash, and the price, I purchased it over the canon speedlite 420ex, and I liked it quite a bit. However, after using it for about 2 weeks, the motor in the flash died. I sent it back to Amazon without any fuss, and they quickly sent me another one. 2 weeks later, the motor in the second flash went out as well... I sent it back once again and Amazon let me know that they couldn't replace it because they were having problems in this batch. Well, since I needed a flash, I decided to get the canon one and haven't had any problems. After using both, I would say that I prefer the Canon one, simply due to the build quality (although I love the built-in diffuser on the Sigma.) The Canon just feels as though it's higher quality and may last longer. Don't get me wrong, the Sigma doesn't feel cheap, it just feels like it's a lower quality than the canon. Both flashes work extremely well. Also, if you're new to photography, the learning curve on the Sigma will take much, much longer, whereas the Canon is MUCH easier to use (which is actually nice sometimes). I haven't yet run into a situation where I said, "gosh, I wish I had that sigma flash instead." I'm rating this flash 4 stars because I do believe that it was just a bad batch. When the flash did work, it worked very well.

Okay - I would perhaps not take this flash as the only flash for professional work trekking through the jungle and swinging from tree to tree, because the build quality, although perfectly okay (it isn't by any means flimsy), isn't quite bomb-proof pro level. Sigma uses plastic bits on the foot of the flash where metal might have been a good idea. But apart from that, this on one h*** of a flash. Got power to spare and far more functions than I or probably anyone will really want to use. Works perfectly with the Nikon D100 (supports D-TTL fine, with 3D Matrix metering no problem) and also i-TTL (D70, etc.) as advertised. Price here wasn't the only reason to go for this particular flash. I wanted a sturdy flash I could attach a Lumiquest soft box onto the front of without the head always wanting to droop, and this is perfect. Also narrow focusing of the flash beam was important, as I do a lot of corporate event photography and work with a 200mm zoom. This flash narrows the beam down to 105mm, which means you're basically fine at any sensible distance.
A very nice flash. Just don't drop the camera down the mountainside with the flash on top, or you may be gluing bits together. I can definitely recommend it. For pro use also, but not as an only flash. I have a set of Nikon flashes which used to be my primaries but are now backups. Good piece of work and plenty of power. Go Sigma!

I am an amateur but i found the use and versatality absolutely good.
I read a lot of reviews before i went for it where everyone had said the body is flimsy.Though it is bit bulky the build quality is surprisingly good.
The flash flawlessly works as a slave for my inbuilt flash. It is very powerful with natural effects when bounced on the ceiling as well as the side wall.
The fill in flash is awesome.
I am experimenting everyday and good to see so many futures even though i am not using all of them at this point of time.
For long i toyed with the idea of buying a 580EX against Sigma EF500 Super.
DRebel(300D) being ETTL and not ETTL II does not justify for me to pay 400$ for a flash which contains a future i can never use.
Last but not the least i like canon over other competitors but for accessories i find Sigma is worth it.
