| Features:
| • | ALR - A new Anti Leg Rotation system, which means the tripod can be opened in less than 15 seconds. Simply loosen all the twist locks on each leg at the same time, then pull the leg down and tighten the locks individually. | | • | G-Lock: The Gitzo leg locking system has been completely redesigned in order to achieve a 20% increase in rigidity, faster operation and stronger, safer locking. G-Lock's special design also provides a "gravity lock" effect: the higher the load applied vertically to the leg, the stronger the lock. | | • | Ground Level Set: This feature allows you to remove the center column to save weight and get the camera closer to the ground. Uses existing components: the upper disc with reversible 1/4 - 3/8 bolt and the column hook assembly. | | • | Hook: This built-in accessory allows you to hang a stabilizing weight (e.g. a full camera bag or a sand/water bag) from the bottom of the tripod center column. Useful with long heavy lenses, on uneven ground or in windy conditions. | | • | Rapid Column: The center column locking collar above the tripod shoulder makes it easier to adjust the column quickly. Series 1 and above are built with an anti-rotation grooved center column for improved stability. |

Not as tough as the price would suggest! April 12, 2007 Edgar H. Tan, MD (Global) 9 out of 30 found this review helpful
I like the lightweight feel of the tripod and the solid ballhead that I bought along with this tripod but the plate that came with the ballhead couldn't hold my D200 with 17-55mm F2.8 on a vertical shot 30 degrees inclined. The camera kept turning back down because of weight.... no matter how strongly I screwed the plate at the bottom of the camera to secure the camera body. When I examined what was going on the cork adhesive wasn't strong enough and it keeps giving way causig it to be deformed as well. This was a turn off to me. I decided to rip off the cork, removed the adhesive with a solvent and reapplied a super strength glue. I will see how this would go in the next outing.....this is one weakness that could be fixed at home but with a ballhead costing an arm and a leg, I was expecting a tough cookie ready to rock n' roll!!
The perfect travel tripod May 31, 2008 Joseph Sudano (Dix Hills, NY United States) I just received my new Gitzo GT0530 tripod. I am using am Amvona titaniam ballhead that I already own while waiting for my new Markins M10. I am amazed how light this tripod is, and yet how rock solid it is with my Nikon D300 with an 80-400mm zoom lens. I own aluminum tripods that weigh 3-4 times what the Gitzo does, but this is the most stable tripod I have ever owned. I purchased the 0530 to take with me in the field due to its light weight, and it fits perfectly into my Tarmac Expedition 5 backpack. You hardly know its there due to its light weight. I know it seems expensive, but there is nothing on the market that I am aware of that offers its light weight and performance.
