I purchased this tripod for a two-month trip throughout Asia. I needed a small, lightweight tripod because I was carrying my luggage in a small 40-liter backpack. The Gitzo 1540T was perfect for the job. When I didn't need the tripod, I hardly noticed it was in my pack. It folds up to nearly nothing and only weighs around two pounds. However, when I needed the tripod it provided more than adequate support for my Nikon D200 and 200mm lens, even in strong winds. I highly recommend it!

The Gitzo GT 1540T is the best little travel tripod I've ever seen. It is extremely light and compact by most tripod standards. The bottom leg sections are quite small and overall has limits on the degree of stability it will provide. I wouldn't use it for my primary tripod but I wouldn't pack my primary tripod on all day hikes due to size and weight, so this is the perfect trade off for me.

I needed a small and lightweight tripod for traveling, but not so small that it would not reach over short walls, especially the kinds of walls built at overlooks. This tripod turned out to be the perfect size and perfect weight. It is sturdy and the leg locks were easy to use when on the run. When folded, I could hold all three leg locks in one hand and loosen or tighten all three at one time. Some people have said to not use tripods with more than three leg sections, but with the advances in tripods this one was as stable as my heavy duty three section tripod.
