Product Description The Samsung Evoca 140S QD is one of the smallest zoom compact cameras of its class. Its powerful 4x zoom helps ensure great pictures, from close-ups to wide-angle landscape shots. It uses a newly designed passive auto focus system. Offers red-eye reduction, quartz dating, and a variety of shooting modes, including continuous shooting, portrait, landscape, and bulb. It also provides an easy switch for shooting in panorama mode.

I recently read about the Evoca 140 in Popular Photo. This camera recently won the 1999 European Compact Camera of the Year Award.I have been shooting pictures for about a month. It is the best camera I ever picked up in my hands. Every thing it said in the article was true. The 140mm lens bring you 4x closer to the subject. The camera also has a Scheinder Kreuznach lens, (High End German Optics) that are not found in any other camera like it. It would recommend this camera to both first time buyers as well as advance photographers
My SLR is jealous May 9, 2000 83 out of 83 found this review helpful
Since getting this little gem I haven't touched my SLR. I take the EVOCA 140s with me everywhere. It is so lightweight and portable there is no reason to leave it at home. While I do miss some of the manual functions of my SLR, I don't miss the hassle of toting its bulk. With the EVOCA 140s I no longer have to sacrifice quality for convenience. The lens is the thing. The EVOCA 140s is equipped with a Schneider Kreuznach lens. The high end optics provide stunning results. You get clear, sharp images at every focal length (38 - 140 mm). There is an automatic macro setting when a subject is within 1m. The multitude of flash options and camera functions makes the EVOCA 140s one of the most versatile point and shoots on the market. I have taken pictures in all types of lighting conditions and have yet to stump the camera. The clear, concise manual (written in Spanish and English) has all of the information you need and is full of suggestions to help you get the best results from your camera. I used to carry the manual with me as a quick reference. After experimenting with a few rolls, the camera functions became intuitive. I find it increasingly difficult to take a bad picture. A remote control for the EVOCA 140s is sold separately. Operating instructions for the remote as well as a toll free order number can be found in the manual. The remote is a fun little gadget, but really isn't necessary given all of the camera's self timing functions. There are a couple of minor drawbacks to the EVOCA 140s. A very flimsy, plastic shutter covers the lens. Such a valuable lens deserves better protection. The battery life is short. Even though it is impossible to accidentally leave the camera on (it closes down if no action has taken place within a 30 second interval) the power is drained after only 15 or 20 rolls. Minor flaws aside; versatility, convenience and quality make the EVOCA 140s an excellent photographic tool for the amateur and professional alike.
Amazing Pictures September 21, 2000 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
We thought our old Nikon 35mm took sharp pictures, but this Samsung is amazing, the "HDTV" of film photography! We had been soured on zoom cameras when we purchased the #1 consumer reports zoom (a Yashica) a couple of years ago and could never get consistently sharp pictures. As another reviewer indicated, the autofocus on this camera seems to never miss -- consistently sharp pictures from 38 to 140mm. In fact, the pictures are almost too sharp -- the gray hairs show up and my wife has said she will start having to wear makeup. An added plus -- Samsung provides excellent customer service. Very satisfied with this purchase.
EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS October 23, 2000 Kathy McCollum (Bridgeport, CT USA) 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
I don't know how the camera will hold up in the long run but we just got back from Las Vegas and the photos that were taken with this camera were just beautiful. Extremely sharp, great (hand held) night photos, colours were great. We are extremely pleased with the results and hope the camera will be with us for a long time.

I can easily say that Samsung Evoca 140S is the best point-and-shoot camera I have ever used. The pros and cons of this camera in my opinion are as follows: (+) The camera is very small and extremely lightweight. Samsung has done an excellent job in squeezing loads of features in such a small space. (+) Variety of shooting modes: I won't list every shooting mode here and take your time (you can check them out in product details), but it has *a lot* of shooting modes for a point-and-shoot camera, including panaromic mode. When taking a panaromic shot, the camera adjusts the viewfinder so that you can actually see the shot in panaromic mode before shooting (didn't see this feature in many cameras). (+) Flash modes: Evoca140 has a number of flashing modes. To me, the most important 'flash features' were: 1) red-eye reduction, and 2) the ability to take photos at night. Red-eye reduction works perfectly (didn't have a single red-eye in about 30 rolls), and the flash is powerful enough to take good pictures at night. When using a flash is impossible (for example, when taking a photo of a distant object at night), you can use the bulb mode to take beautiful pictures (However, make sure that you have a tripod for this). (+) Power save: I don't really know if this is a common feature among point-and-shoot cameras, but, I like the 'power save' feature of this camera. It shuts itself down after 30 seconds if there is no user interaction. (+) The 4x zoom works perfectly: The clarity and color of pictures were perfect in the entire 38-140mm range. (-) The only drawback in my opinion is the buttons on the top side of the camera (which are used for flash modes / date-time / captioning etc). They are very small and a little hard to push. Forget about adjusting the flash mode when you have your gloves on :) But given the size of the camera, I probably shouldn't complain about the size of the buttons. To summerize: Given the price of Evoca 140S, it is an excellent buy for a point-and-shoot camera.
