Hakuba HG-504MX: Awesome high quality carbon fiber tripod! November 10, 2007 Sharpshooter-D300 (Lima, Peru) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is a topnotch, hi-tech carbon fiber & magnesium tripod that has everything right: - Extremely lightweight (only 3.9 lb.) but rock-solid. It handles easily any DSLR camera (i.e. Nikon D200, Canon 40D, etc.) plus a fairly heavy long lens (i.e. 70-200 f/2.8, etc.). It's really amazing how carbon fiber outperforms traditional tripod materials. - Very compact when collapsed, only about 21.5 inches long (including the 3-inch high panhead). Fits in a plane carry-on bag. - Includes a good quality and smooth 3-way panhead that locks in place easily and tightly, very usable. - Very versatile, each leg can be set at various angles, either to adapt to slanted or uneven terrain or to set the tripod at a very low height for macros, facilitated by the 2-part center column. - The turn-type leg locks are a pleasure to operate, they are made of rubberized material, turn smoothly like a high end lens barrel and lock quickly and very securely at any extension of the legs. Leg segments do not turn when the locks are loosened, so that the tripod can be extended or collapsed using only one hand to operate the locks, a big design advantage. - Beautifully made and impecably finished, this tripod oozes quality and top performance in every detail, and every part works like a precision instrument, nothing to envy from Gitzo. Any owner would be proud to use and carry around this beauty. - Includes neoprene covers on the three upper leg segements, plus a nice carrying case and a stone bag for extra stability under extreme conditions (i.e. very strong wind). - Best of all, very reasonably priced, a tremendous value without any quality concesion. Highly recommended.

Excellent value for the money. Very compact, sturdy and lightweight. They say the lightest tripod you should use is the heaviest you are going to carry. Well, for me this is it. It's not Gitzo, but it's sturdy and does excellent job of dampening vibrations. And it's light enough to take on a hike to a waterfall to get that silky water picture.
