Terrific tripod July 18, 2008 S. Dean (Arkansas, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The basalt composition of this tripod is a great way to save a bit of money over the cost of a similar carbon fiber unit. Although it is slightly heavier than carbon fiber, there are very few additional trade-offs. The GT2941L is exceptionally sturdy for it's small, light weight size. The twist lock, anti-rotate legs are fast to deploy or retract. When the legs are collapsed, you can easily lock or unlock all the locks on a leg with one grasp. The legs lock securely without having to use excessive force to twist the lock. The G-Lock system is a tremendous improvement of the older Gitzo leg system. The GT2941L is tall enough for a photographer of 5'10" height, without extending the collumn. It also is capable of getting down very low due to the quickly removable collumn. The Kirk BH-3 ball head is a perfect match for this tripod. It fits the base perfectly, and is capable of handling any size camera and lens you would ever want to put on this tripod. The bottom line is that I don't think I could have done better than the purchase of the GT2941L. You can spend less, but in the long run you will spend more when you are not satisfied with a cheaper tripod. Go for the Gitzo and never have a regret.
