Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Traveler Monopod is a 6 Section, 2 series monopod. It is the first monopod to feature Gitzo's ALR locking system and it is also the FIRST Carbon 6X monopod. New 6X Carbon Fiber Technology The existing 1.5mm Gitzo carbon fiber tube wowed the world with its unsurpassed strength, stability and remarkable lightweight form factor. Utilizing a three-crossed multilayer carbon structure, bonded together at high pressure and temperature by high quality resins, Gitzo was able to offer professionals a carbon fiber tube that proved to be the ultimate in vibration absorption, strength and stability. Tapping into its revolutionary resources and utilizing its unmatched experience with composite materials, Gitzo was able to develop a new, six-crossed multilayer 1mm carbon fiber 30 percent lighter than the previous generation that features the same exceptional performance of stability and vibration absorption and unbeatable quality. Backing Gitzo 6X technology is the new six-crossed multilayer range which features the Anti Leg Rotation (ALR) system. The ALR system allows for a fast and smooth setup, yet maintains the uncompromised locking strength of the traditional Gitzo twist lock system. Just loosen all twist locks at the same time and pull down the leg before tightening them, making setup a mere 15 seconds for this four sectioned tripod.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect Travel Monopod   November 4, 2007

I looked high and low for any other monopod that would collapse to a compact size, be light weight and have the strength to work with larger lenses. This was the only good solution I could come up with and it really is perfect. Worth every penny.
If you need a monopod to take on a motorcycle or throw in a suitcase this is the one.

2 out of 5 stars Wobbly and over-priced   March 2, 2008

I examined this monopod in a camera store when shopping for a monopod. It is lightweight, but I was very surprised to see the lowest of the 6 sections was thinner than my pinky finger. It had a surprising amount of give. I would be hestitant to use it with a large telephoto. I compared it to several others, and (surprisingly) ended up getting the Manfrotto 676B for $33. The 676 was still pretty lightweight, collapsed to under 20" (good enough for a carry-on bag), but most importantly it seems a lot more sturdy than the 6 section Gitzo. The 676 is plenty sufficent for a typical DSLR with a 300 F4 lens or a 70-200/2.8. If you need serious support, go for a bigger Gitzo or Manfrotto. It seems to me a 4 section unit is the ideal compromise between size and stability. Gitzo got a bit carried away with six sections - too much wobble for too much money.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome travel monopod; note the short height though   March 10, 2008

Superb quality, light and compact.

Make sure the height will work for you; it is a bit shorter than the non-travel monopods. I use a Bogen swivel head to raise the camer a few inches and that works for me (I'm 5'10").

5 out of 5 stars How did I go so long without a decent monopod?   August 29, 2008
Evan E. Fusco MD (Nixa, MO USA)
I paired this with a Manfrotto Swivel Tilt monopod head with a Kirk quick release [...] so all my QR plates already on my cameras work on both the monopod and my Tripod.

It's amazingly light, compact and thin...the head weighs nearly as much as the entire pod. It fits neatly on the outside of my camera bag. It's very rigid despite the very thin lower leg segment.
