Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
If your outdoor adventures demand high performance from compact, lightweight binoculars, take a look through the Safari 8 x 22. Center focus, roof prism binoculars fold to fit a pocket or their own small case. And like all Safaris, they feature the brilliance of Steiner optics, but screen UV light and reduce glare. Ideal for hiking, backpacking or other active outdoor sports where size and weight are critical considerations. Excellent close focus for birding in woodlands and brush, too.

5 out of 5 stars Steiner Safari 8x22   February 9, 2004

I have used a top end Leica glass in the past, and needed something light and small in addition. This one is perfect, delivers a crisp & clear image. An amazing binocular for the money.

5 out of 5 stars Steiner 8x22 review and comparison   May 17, 2008

I've compaired this to my older Bausch and Lomb 7x26 custom compact (the current bushnell 7x26 custom compact), a pair of Olympus Outback 8x21, and a cheap pair of Bushnell 8x21's.

The Bausch and Lomb's are pretty much the standard that compact binoculars are judged against. Keeping in mind they are nearly 3x the price of the Steiners, the Steiners stack up well, crisp and clear edge to edge and bright as well. The Bausch's have the edge in low light due to the larger objective lense and lower magnification. The Steiners have a solid feel in the hand and all the controls fall under the fingers intuitively.

The Olympus Outback 8x21's are ok, but feel like cheap plastic, they will do the job but with a clear win to the Steiners in brightness and edge to edge clarity. Very light weight the Olympus Outbacks are a bit harder to hold steady than the Steiners.

The Bushnell 8x21 would be ok for kids and are better than nothing I suppose, but after the Steiners or the Bausch's it's almost like using a toy pair of binoculars.

Overall I'm impressed with these, 95% of the more expensive Bausch's at close to a third of the price. At about $35 more than the Olympus Outback's, spend the money and get the Steiners, it's worth the extra money. Only get the Busnells if budget is really tight, or you need a throw away pair of binoculars.

Edited to add....pretty much all of the information provided by Amazon is incorrect in the listing as I write this. They obviously are discribing some other pair of binoculars.

4 out of 5 stars nice & compact   June 30, 2008

These are handy to have for wildlife viewing. Light, compact, with a good field of view. Eight power is enough magnification for woodland use on the East coast. Very happy with the purchase.
