Poor Resolution Quality December 4, 2007 Jayson A. Olson (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I recently purchased this as a gift for a relative that isn't very technical. I figured I could load the pictures myself and then give it as a present. I was a little skeptical when an 'outlet' type store in my area was suddenly offering a reduced price on this. Now I know why. Straight out of the box, the instructions are incorrect. The slick provided says once the device is plugged into a USB port, your computer will recognize '5' empty lettered drives. No, it only recognizes '3'. Windows XP SP2 had some initial trouble installing all 'drives', and the instructions included warns that this may happen, and thus the user should repeat initial setup/boot intructions. Mine did work the second time around. Overall the dragging and dropping of files is a no-brainer, as does setting up the slide show with its affects. This may be the only bright spot that earned my review 2 stars instead of 1. The main reason this model is a stinker is the really sub-par image quality/resolution for the price. Even at a 'reduced' price, I was surprised how muddy, and dark some of the pictures were, even with the brightness turned all the way up on the frame. Some seemed 'pixelated' at edges where the image should be smooth, and at times the pictures were cut off for 'optimization'. I know if I received this for a gift, I'd be dissapointed. I'm going to take mine back as I'd be embarrased to pass this off as a digital frame to someone who looks forward to special memories.
No customer support. Don't buy!!! December 1, 2007 Jimbo (Virginia) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Do not buy PanDigital. They do not support the product. Mine quit working (flash!) after less than 4 months. "Customer Service" told me "unfortunately...." after the 90 day warranty they would do nothing. Don't believe the manual or their website. They do not repair this product...There are NO parts, you are just SOL. Stay away!!
Extremely pleased with frame December 27, 2007 Bud (Texas) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this frame as a gift for my mother n law. I was a little skeptical after reading the reviews. But compared to some of the other frames out there, this one did not look cheap and small. I took it home plugged it in the computer, barely read the instructions and started downloading pictures. I put over 100 pictures on it, another frame i had looked at would only hold 16 for the same price. This frame also had a music file so i was able to download her favorite songs with the pictures of her grand children and late husband. What a wonderful gift of memories. I had absolutely no trouble with this frame, it was the easiest thing i have ever done. I give it a five star !
With a teeny bit of effort, this frame works great! January 9, 2008 Laurel Sunderman (Carmichael, CA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am very pleased with this frame. I received it as a Christmas present from my husband because he knows I always love to watch the My Pictures slideshow on my computer. Many of the bad reviews seem to deal with poor resolution and cropping issues. For your photos to display correctly on the screen, it's best to crop the photos using any basic photo program (Photoshop, Microsoft Digital Image, etc.) to 7x5 format (7x5 because it is landscape). If your pictures have another ratio (4x6, etc.), the frame has to "guess" the best way to crop/resize your picture, and it doesn't have any way to tell where people's heads are, etc. I actually think the resolution is really good compared to other digital frames I've seen. Most digital frames, particularly in this price range, will have a little bit of grain, but on this one, I only notice it if I've got my face right up to the frame. When I'm sitting on the couch looking at it, or I'm viewing it from any reasonable distance, it appears perfectly sharp. I'm not sure people are always very realistic about the resolution on these frames. I have uploaded pictures to it from both my 4 megapixel point and shoot and my husband's SLR Nikon Digital camera, and both look great. The small effort of cropping photos to a 7x5 ratio is worth it. For verticals, I find cropping them to 8x10 works well. I give this frame 4 stars instead of 5 because I did find saving photos to the internal memory difficult. But, saving photos to a memory card (and this frame takes every memory card under the sun - a big plus) was quite easy, and I like that better anyway since I can store more photos on a card than on the 128mb of internal memory. Overall, I'm extremely happy. Don't let the reviews turn you off. This is a good digital frame at a good price.
Great product if you get the good batch March 5, 2008 ESQ (ChiTown) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The people giving 1 star do in fact have a bad frame. It happened to me also , I got one as a gift the pic quality was awful and the whole drive recognition issue. then i went back to Macy's and exchanged it. This is really excellent frame and all if you get one from the "good" run. if you want to know if you got a good frame look at the electrical plug: if its 5V its crap if its 9V its $$$. Truly i would have written a terrible review for this unless i exchanged it. Trust me for the $ this is an awesome frame just make sure you get one from a good batch/run.
