Virtually a perfect fit May 12, 2008 Emanuel Kanal (Pittsburgh, PA) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
After around one month of using this bag extensively, I can say that I have found it to be almost exactly what I would have designed for myself! I have taken this bag with me on long commercial flights with several connections, in the car for short as well as extended trips, on four seater prop planes for aerial shoots, etc. It always also contains my 17" Macintosh laptop as well, plus two extra batteries for the laptop. I have packed this bag in "default" mode relatively full, with all the gear I would likely need for a trip for BOTH the laptop as well as the D300, the extra 105 mm Macro Nikkor lens, two lens hoods, the SB800 flash, additional filters, batteries, etc. Yes, it is of course heavy (by my choice, of course), but the key is that it can and does handle it all well. The camera is very readily accessible (albeit not with the lens hood, which would require my opening the side compartment for access), I have the comfort of knowing that I have almost everything on me that I might need for the shoot, and the portability of a very sturdy and well built backpack that fits superbly when completely cinched around the shoulders, chest, and waist. The only reason that I gave it four and not five stars is because try as I might I have not found a way to attach even my smallest tripod (except for the table top version, which is indeed already in the bag) to the bag to take with me. The cost to step up to the model that accepts the tripod is rather steep, whereas it should have been a rather simple addition to a bag of this dimensions to attach a tripod hooking mechanism. Nevertheless, despite this drawback, this is the bag that I want with me for 99% of my travels - and which has become not only my #1 camera bag but frankly my #1 (17") laptop bag as well, now that I can take my laptop and camera equipment with me at all times. Great job, Lowepro!
Lowepro Fastpack 350 Review April 29, 2008 Michael R. Flannery 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
Lowepro Fastpack 350 (Black) This is my third camera bag from Lowepro and as with the two previous, this is a very well designed product with excellent usability and build quality. This bag really meets my needs for a travel camera bag. It allows me to keep my EF 70-200 f/2.8L lens, with lens hood reversed, on my 40D and easily access it out the side opening. My only thing I would change on this bag would be that the padded storage spots for your additional lenses are a little on the small side. I have room for my EF 24-105 f/4L lens, but it won't fit with the lens hood reversed on it. I have to store the lens hood separately. Otherwise, it really meets my needs.
Disappointed in Lowepro May 13, 2008 Bob S (Attleboro, MA USA) 10 out of 17 found this review helpful
I have enjoyed using a Lowepro camera only bag for several years. So now when I required a PC/Camera bag the natural choice was again a Lowepro. I bought the Fastback 350. Unfortunately I'm afraid that was a big mistake. There is a lot less Velcro loop in the main camera compartment so there is virtually no flexibility in parition layout. The side opening makes me worry that my camera will slide out, if the bag is opened when lying on it's back, it's most stable position. The height of the camera section is much too high, resulting in wasted space or the possibility of damage to equipment. The top section is too large, which minimizes what you can safely store there. No gripes about the PC section. Definitely large enough for my 15-1/4" laptop. Haven't tried my 17" yet, but probably would using the smaller laptop when traveling anyway. Overall the construction was good, just wish they would have spent the few extra cents for more Velcro and more flexibility.
LOWEPRO-350-FINDINGS-REMIDIES-FEEDBACK June 7, 2008 Don S. Righello 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
Well, after 30 minutes typing a very detailed feedback response for my purchase of the Loweprow 350 Fastpack I clicked on the wrong tab and lost everything. Now I must make another attempt to convey my thoughts, but I find it important to do so in hopes that this helps both the seller and buyer. The Fastpack 350 arrived about six days after I purchased it and I immediately began the task of a thorough inspection. I discovered some areas of concern so I pondered for a bit and arrived at a solution. I would not send it back I needed it for some shooting and would resolve the issues myself, knowing that it would be at least two weeks turn around for the repairs. If they decided to replace it, I might be facing the same issues again. The areas that showed up upon initial inspection were as follows. A. Some of the stitching was too far apart for my taste.ie: gaps between stitches which could allow seams to part. B. Eight places where stitches had been finished and thread was left without securing the ends. C. Five thread ends long enough to find their way between the zipper, and yes, jam up the zipper. Well, I began my chore of repairing these issues by the following methods. 1. I took some very strong thread, the best I could find at home, not nylon which I much prefer, but I felt somewhat comfortable with cotton as long as I applied a generous amount of it. I stitched over all the areas which showed large gaps between stitches, and firmly secured the thread ends with three very low profile knots. For additional comfort I applied a very, very, slight amount of Krazy Glue to the knots to ensure integrity. 2. I prepared the nylon thread ends which were far too long by cutting them down to about 3/8". I then applied some heat via a small lighter, be careful not to apply too much heat, you want just enough to cause the thread to melt and shrink into a very small ball pulling itself right up against the fabric. Needs, wants and desires. I would prefer if it had more zipper and elastic pouches inside the flaps. A few more loops on the large straps over the back of the shoulders, to secure a Tripod, this would be a very nice feature. I must admit, I wasn't overly excited about receiving a product I had to make repairs to, but I guess mass producing them leads to potential Quality Control issues, at least they were not major design flaws. What I like about the Fastpack 350. 1. The capability to carry a Laptop in the side access pouch nearest the back. It has adequate room to pack along a medium sized computer and cables. 2. I really enjoy the large net pouch on the side, plenty of room for several medium bottles or one large size. 3. Waist bands and straps allow you to equalize the weight carrying ability between your shoulders and waist. Great if your traveling a distance before your shoot. 4. Large top pouch with numerous internal pouches and pockets to accommodate gadgets and provide additional room for a jacket or cap. 5. The adjustable dividers inside allow you to fit various lenses along with your camera, speedlight, batteries and accessories. Wrap-up it's time to go shooting. For the money this was not a bad investment. If I need the extra pouches and pockets I can always fabricate and customize them to meet my needs. I'm pleased with what I have, I just wanted to offer my take on some things I find important when purchasing something, I believe should be a value for your money. D. S. Righello
not for medium sized women June 20, 2008 M. Branco (MT) 9 out of 17 found this review helpful
this backpack is not so hot if you are 5ft 5 or less, as it is too long and doesn't sit on the back very nicely. It also is really high profile and the way it is set up, the distribution of weight makes you lilt to one side. I wanted to go to a masseuse after 3 days of using this pack to work out the muscle aches. I got a Kata bag because it actually is a better thought out bag and am going to try to sell mine to some one who has a better back.
