Despite the Reviews so far on this, I bought it and am pleased May 19, 2008 Eradiani (Eugene, OR) 38 out of 40 found this review helpful
So, despite the poor reviews I re-read them and figured they were by people that didn't know much about HD-TV's or are bitter by one thing or another about the product. Why will you buy this screen? Well you want a medium sized TV for a bedroom, college dorm, etc that has TONS of inputs. For you gamers, this is the perfect sized TV that will hook up to your consoles with multiple HDMI inputs and component inputs you will get a bunch of your consoles plugged in to this without additional AV tuners. Note: this doesn't have composite inputs, so you will have to either buy an HDMI cable or component cable for the consoles if you don't have one already. The contrast ratio and brightness of this screen is also amazing which makes movies and games come to life. Been playing GTA4 over the weekend through my ps3 and everything was amazing and didn't notice any delay (another perk of the 8ms response time). The speakers for this definitely are it's one weakness, so that review is appropriate, they are in the back of the screen and pointing directly down to the ground. So while that kind of sucks honestly you have to ask yourself, are you going to use the TV speakers or use the multiple outputs to plug into a surround sound anyways? I would ignore the poster that talked about bad picture plugging directly from cable, that will happen on ANY HDTV because without a cable box you don't get a digital signal (at least not until the digital transition) and because of that ANY HDTV will look bad. The cable box converts the signal.
Good TV May 20, 2008 moth (Boston, MA) 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
Like other reviewers for this product I placed this TV in my bedroom. I did have an issue with the auto programming, but I traced the issue to the cable (not an issue with the TV). Once corrected - the TV auto programmed just fine and looks wonderful. Other choices in this price range had less contrast (this has 5000:1). In a smaller, darker room (like a bedroom) this TV works well.
Samsung Has a Serious Problem With This TV April 16, 2008 W. White 16 out of 34 found this review helpful
Samsung LN26A450C 26-inch 720p LCD HDTV I purchased this TV to be used in our bedroom and hooked it up directly to cable. The procedure for programing the set was followed for analog and digital cable signals. That is when the problems started! After programing, I discovered that some channels that are available locally were not found. I programed the tuner a second time. The channels found were different from the previous time, so I ran the setup a third time. This time the set locked up and had to be unpluged and restarted. I tried over twelve times before giving it up as a lost cause. After several call to Samsung, it was decided that there was a problem with the tuner. I returned this set and replaced it with a second LN26A450. Unfortunately, the second set exhibited the same problem as the first and the tuner could not be successfully programed. If you intend to connect directly to cable service, do not buy this set! I am returning this one and will replace it with a Sony.
Good TV, if it fits your needs April 14, 2008 G. Samuelson (Charleston, SC) 13 out of 39 found this review helpful
I purchased this TV last week with the intention of using it as my computer monitor and TV in order to save space in my apartment. I was using a tube TV and a 24" Dell LCD monitor with my computer. When I received it and hooked it up, I first tested my Xbox 360 with HDMI. The picture quality was great and sound was good considering the small speakers Samsung selected for this unit. I then tested the Cable via my digital box (w/ component) and the picture and sound were good. As I don't care about the picture quality very much when watching TV (and only when watching TV) I decided to hook the cable directly to the TV. This resulted in I a grainy picture and the loss of my pretty HD content (which is of course to be expected) but it was as good as any other LCD TV I have used with direct cable connection. When I hooked up my computer via DVI to HDMI the picture quality was good, but the resolution was much less that what I was used to coming from my 24" Dell LCD. I can't fault Samsung for this as there are very few TVs that support resolutions like I am used to, but it just wasn't something I was used to. I decided to keep the TV and see if I could work with it for a few more days. This morning I decided I wanted to listen to a record on my Sony record player. I had been attaching this through one of the inputs on my TV and figure I could do the same with the LN26a450. I was wrong. Come to find out you cannot attach an audio source without a matching video source. When I hooked it up it would not even go to the source I had attached it to. Knowing that this was Samsung's auto source detection working I attached my computer via HDMI2 and hooked the sound into the corresponding ports and the music started playing. I then unplugged the cable from my computer and the sound stops. The video source must be connected as long as you want the audio source. I called Samsung and they stated there is no way to bypass this feature. Support was also VERY rude. Apparently attaching audio without video to a TV is not what the average consumer would do. When I asked him about all of the people that attach iPods to their TVs he just said that there is video with the iPod. I tried to explain that many people either don't have the video iPods or don't use the video kit and only use miniplug to RCA adapters. He just repeated that you COULD use the video kit with an iPod. The lack of audio support and the attitude of support is the reason for only 3 stars (instead of 4). Overall this TV works great for the TV and to attach a game system, but does NOT fit MY needs.
large black distortion if placed above eye level June 6, 2008 roustabout (cowabunga) 13 out of 21 found this review helpful
wow, what a bad set for me. I have a (very nice) wall mount (an omnimount) and the set is mounted about 6' off the floor on an equipment rack. Goal being, swivel one way to face my workspace, swivel another way to face the sofa. So far, so good. There's about a 15 degree difference between the line of sight from the workstation to the set and the sofa to the set. Each time I move, I have to readjust the angle, so that the black pixels kind of lose their blue sheen. In a set with a nominal 160 degree or so front view, I was NOT expecting huge color artifacts from a relatively small change in vertical angle. This artifact is one to look carefully for in stores before you buy. Viewed straight on, the Samsung and the Sony Bravia are comparable (and they're all so overtuned at the store, the colors mean less than the distortion.) Get below the sets and look up, though. The Samsung will look very blue across the black. Pronounced and ugly. If the Samsung will wind up being floor mounted or table mounted - at or below eye level - you'll be fine, and you may like the picture better than that of the Sony. If it will be above your line of sight, do not mount it flush to the wall, and if it will be
