Just didn't work, period October 14, 2006 J. Hulett 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
First, the registration failed to connect to the internet. Not the end of the world, but that was a tip as to how the rest of it would work. It would not format with the firewire connected - it would only format with the USB connection to the computer (per maxtor's web site). Once I got it formatted via USB, I tried to reconnect it via firewire 800, and the formatting was lost - the disk showed up as RAW file format. So I started over. The manual indicates a way to "erase" from the security settings section, but the option was not in the list for my installation. The only way to force a format was to change the Raid setting to Raid 1, then go back to Raid 0. So I got it reformatted, and to top it all off, even connected via USB, the backup failed with a message that there was not enough disk space when trying to back up a 300GB disk on the computer with the Onetouch configured as Raid 0 (600GB) - actual formatted space was 558GB - that's a lot of overhead. I don't know if I just got a bad one or what, but I've spent enough time on this. I'm going to give the WD Mybook a try instead.
