Amazon.com Product Description The PV140 ultra-compact PowerVerter from Tripp Lite offers reliable inversion for your laptop, cell-phone charger, or other device in a durable, lightweight, extruded-aluminum housing that's small enough to take anywhere. Now you can enjoy an AC power source that moves easily from vehicle to vehicle. Designed with the needs of the mobile executive in mind, the PV140 fits easily in a briefcase with a laptop computer. It comes with a cigarette lighter input plug for easy connection and disconnection to a vehicle's dashboard. The inverter provides 140 watts continuous power and 200 watts peak. Its frequency-controlled, computer-grade power is less likely to damage sensitive electronics than the unpredictable output of a generator. What's in the Box Power inverter, adapter cable, and an instruction manual.
Product Description PowerVerter APS units automatically sense and switch AC output between outside power (utility or generator) and battery power when no AC power is available. Ideal for use as mobile power systems or stationary UPS/emergency power supplies. Models include a technically-advanced 3-stage battery charger for quicker recharge, plus protection against over-charge and over-discharge to ensure a longer service life from batteries. High-efficiency output is frequency-controlled to support delicate loads. APS series inverters do not include batteries; users supply batteries to determine their own runtimes.

Great product and reliable May 20, 2003 W. Hughes (Seattle, WA) 27 out of 27 found this review helpful
I just completed a 5500 mile trip in my car using this power inverter to run a boom box, computer, digital camera or battery charger. It worked for everything, without fail, whether the car was running or not and even works seemlessly when transitioning from car off to car running. It never blew a circuit breaker, either the car's or its own. As long as you don't try and overtax its 140 W limit (which I didn't) I can't imagine why you'd ever have any problems with this product
