You can't use a cig lighter for more than 120 watts!!!! May 12, 2002 48 out of 48 found this review helpful
This is in response to another reviewer who gave this a 1-star rating, because he couldn't use more than 125 watts without blowing the cigarette lighter fuse. The inverter is not at fault. Most cig lighter sockets are limited to a maximum of ten amps of current, and 10 amps times 12 volts equals 120 watts. If you want to use a 300 watt inverter up to its full capacity, you can't use the cigareatte ligher socket to power the inverter. Instead you'll need to install an accessory power socket with at least the same amp rating as the inverter's fuse. These accessory sockets are often sold with battery clamps on them for direct attachment to a battery, but some models of accessory sockets can also be directly wired to a spare fuse slot on your vehicle's fuse panel and mounted on or under the dash. Many vehicles have 2 or 3 spare fuse circuits available for add-on electrical accessories like this. If you are not comfortable doing work on your vehicle's electrical system yourself, I suggest contacting a car audio business to see if they can install one of these accessory sockets for you, or if they can direct you to someone in your area who can.
Best for the Price November 28, 2000 Ryan Evans (Thousand Oaks, California United States) 22 out of 23 found this review helpful
*2 outputs, great for plugging in a vcr along with your tv *300 watts will be more than enough needed for any object that your probably thinkng about putting in your car *Compact size *Nice appearence, not an eyesore **Only Con is that my car blew a fuse when i put a small refrigerator in the car, but i was just testing it out to see what would happen if i applied more than 300 watts. This is definitely the best for any price, i would of bought this for 30 dollars more than what i purchased it for.
Not happy August 6, 2001 15 out of 33 found this review helpful
I got this to power a 19in color tv that I had when I went camping and found out that not only counld it not run the tv (I later found out that you need 3 to 4 times the watts that was rated on the back of the tv to power it on). My tv was rated at 125 watts but would not power it up and ended up blowing the fuse for my cig lighter in my car. Not good. Get one that is rated much higher then what you think you might be needing that way you will not have the same problem that I had.
A quality inverter. March 7, 2001 Jeff Thompson (Minneapolis, MN United States) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Mine has been working fine for six years now, used in my work van in conditions of heat, extreme cold and jarring vibration. The fan died two years ago, so I picked up a replacement fan at a computer store. Running it in below zero cold probably spun the bearing, so it doesn't reflect poorly on its performance. I've used it to power a laptop for GPS duty, charge my cordless drill, cellphone, shaver, video equipment, soldering gun, hot glue gun and just about anything else I needed to on the go.
2 Outlets, No Fuss August 14, 2001 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
As simple as it may seem, and it works like a charm. 2 outlets. Kept my laptop running for my entire vacation without problems. Very quiet so my family didn't even realize that I was getting power from the back seat. I think that it troubled them that my batteries never died!
