The Casio EXILIM Hi-Zoom EX-Z1200 Digital Camera delivers high resolution and premium performance. Its 12.1 megapixel resolution is the highest available in any compact digital camera. All your photos will be crystal-clear, even in large sizes or when trimmed. Image stabilization and the latest EXILIM Engine 2.0 image processing give an amazing level of detail. An auto-tracking AF system now combines both face detection and motion analysis technologies; once the focus is locked in, it follows a moving subject's face, maintaining both sharp focus and correct exposure. It features 37 Best Shot modes including "Old Photo" best shot which allows you to "revive" old photos in seconds. A 2.8-inch LCD display makes the most of great new functions like simultaneous viewing of a wide angle and a telephoto shot and a convenient right-side set of icon controls. Recording Functions - Still images, stills with audio(30 sec. max), self-timer; continuous shutter (normal speed, high speed, rapid flash, zoom continuous), BEST SHOT, movies with audio, MOVIE BEST SHOT, voice recording Continuous shutter - approximately 1.6-second intervals High-speed continuous shutter - maximum is 3 frames per second Flash Modes - Auto, On, Off, Soft Flash, Red Eye Reduction White Balance - Auto, fixed (6 modes), manual Self-timer - 10 seconds, 2 seconds, Triple Self-timer Records video in H.264/AVC, MOV format Exposure Compensation - -2EV to +2EV (in 1/3EV steps) Aperture - F2.8/F8.0, auto switching Shutter Speed (Priority AE and Manual Exposure) - 30 to 1/2000 second USB cradle connector; USB2.0 (Hi-Speed) compatible Monaural microphone & speaker Silver Rechargeable lithium ion battery(NP-40) Dimensions(WxHxD) - 3.67 x 2.30 x. 88 Weight - Approx. 5.36 oz(excludin

Fantastic take everywhere camera. Standout features are (i) excellent image detail (ii) tremendous auto white balance, best appreciated on a calibrated monitor (iii) very easy to use (iv) highly portable and unobtrusive. If the camera is held super steady, the pictures can be sharp too. At the highest quality settings, the files allow for significant crops and enlargements.

The lens is competent enough and does the job. The let down is that it's not wide enough at the wide end and is pointlessly long at the long end. In 35mm terms, it is a 37-111 zoom; a 24-70mm would have been more useful for day to day and travel snaps. The longer focal lengths are unusable handheld because they greatly magnify vibration and the really unimpressive anti-shake system is of little help there. A shorter, wider, optically superior lens would have given the camera more bite. To be fair, though, most comparable compacts have the same lens coverage; even the Canon G9 does not go much wider, but Casio could have been more innovative and daring.

The packaged software transfers images to a computer but does nothing beyond that. For non-destructive jpeg editing, Picasa is necessary and is brilliant.

My unit persistently overexposes so I routinely reset exposure to EV -0.7 or more before each shot. The -0.7 setting is lost at power-off and has to be reset at each power-on which is very frustrating. If there's a way to store this setting, I still haven't found it.

The z1200 gets 5 stars because if I were buying again today, this is the one I'd get. Used with discipline and imagination, the results are frequently breathtaking.

I bought this camera a week before my trip and I really like it. It is very compact and light weight but very powerful with 12.1MP. So far I like everything about it from a very stylist design to many necessary functions that suitable for travelers...

1 out of 5 stars I GOT BURNED. BAD.   June 30, 2008

Although this camera took good pictures and was user friendly, it broke down after only two months. I sent it to Casio repair and they said it had suffered water corrosion and the damage was NOT covered by warranty. I did not get it wet, take it out in the rain, or treat it badly...yet it broke down in almost no time...and I am out $300 bucks. So, I MUST warn anyone considering buying it: WHY TAKE THE CHANCE WITH A CAMERA SO OBVIOUSLY FRAGILE?? DON'T DO IT!!

Needless to say, I'll NEVER buy a Casio camera again.

I received my Exilim EX-Z1200 camera two days ago and turned it on twice. The second time I turned it on the telephoto casing jammed and would not close. The camera doesn't work now. I did not even get the charger out of the wrapper. I just got off the phone with Casio, they did not help at all. Yes, I am looking to get it replaced so now I will try to see what Amazon can do for me.

5 out of 5 stars Hot Camera when left on?   October 23, 2008

Did anyone that noticed that the camera was a bit HOT when you left it on and using the telephoto zoom or left it on too long? I called Casio and they tell me it wasn't suppose to do that. they suggested I send it to have it check out. at 199.99 (you think?)

Update: 11/18/2008 - I sent it in for repairs it was covered so i am glad. I only pay for postage and insurance, which is not a biggie. look at it this way, I would have spent over 300.00 for the same camera and deal with the same crap all over again. but for 199.00 hell!!!
