Product Description The display is the world's first 19-inch widescreen LCD to combine 1680x1050 super high resolution, ultra fast, up to 2ms response time (gray-to-gray) and up to 3000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio. The VX1940w has been specifically designed for passionate gamers and multimedia enthusiasts eager to enjoy the fastest games and movie action sequences with minimal distortion and industry leading image quality. The VX1940w offers multiple inputs, wide viewing angles and 300 nits of brightness - making it not only an ideal solution for gaming, but also perfect for viewing DVDs and performing traditional PC applications. The highest resolution available on a 19-inch widescreen LCD, combined with the Dynamic Contrast Ratio, provides users with crisp images, darker black levels and a higher contrast. In addition, DCR technology adjusts black levels based on screen content to reduce "light leakage" and improve performance up to four times greater than traditional contrast ratios, especially when viewed from the side.

Great Monitor. Needs a good Graphics card to be useful. February 27, 2008 Utpal Aradhye (Kansas City, MO, USA) 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
I have owned this monitor for over 3 months now and I am very happy with what I bought. Trust in the Viewsonic name and the fact that this was the only 19" model then in the market with a 1680 resolution made me decide on this. The price tag also helped (bought it open box for $193 shipped). Picture Quality: This is one area in which I could not find fault. The colors look a lot better than on my Dell Latitude 820 screen and also much better than the DELL external LCDs that I am used to at work. Very happy with this. Viewsonic delivers again. Build Quality: This is satisfactory though I must admit not the most solid I have seen. Ease of setup: I was able to set this up in less than 10 minutes as an external monitor to my D820 laptop and also equally easily got it running with a Inspiron 600m laptop. No problems there. Caution: This monitor looks good only when run at its maximum resolution and you do need a good graphics card to be able to drive it to its fullest. My ATI Radeon 9000 on the Inspiron 600m falters when delivering video on this huge size in addition to its own 1440 resolution screen. All that processing can overwhelm many laptop video cards. As a result, this monitor is quite useless with such laptops. It delivers excellent performance with a better video card though (NVIDIA Quadro NVS 110M). Untested: This has a 2ms refresh time which is about the fastest you can get. To test this out, it needs to be paired up with a high end graphics card and some heavy duty gaming graphics. This I have not yet done. Also, having owned it for just a day, I am in no position to comment on its reliability (hence 4 stars). VERDICT: Overall, I would recommend this to anyone who needs a high resolution on a smaller screen size. This is an excellent monitor and a great buy at this price as long as you have a graphics card to match.
excellent monitor September 12, 2008 Diane Wilson (Cary, NC USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
A month ago, I upgraded from an older 20" ViewSonic flat panel to a pair of these VX1940w monitors. I've been extremely satisfied with the experience. As a software developer, I've had dual monitors on my last two jobs, so I've gotten really spoiled. The ability to have so many windows visible (not just open) really is a productivity boost. These monitors are very sharp and bright, with excellent contrast and very good color. The build quality is good; one monitor has a stuck pixel, but it starts working after the monitor has been running for a while. The other has no pixel problems at all. The one complaint I have is about ergonomics. This monitor has a short stand, and the height is not adjustable. Each monitor is sitting on a very thick book, but fortunately I won't be needing these books any time soon. Color consistency between the two monitors is not perfect. Although the screens are very sensitive to viewing angle (true for any LCD I've ever seen), one monitor is definitely a little warmer and perhaps a little brighter, even though the setups are identical. It's a small difference, but if color reproducibility is important to you, you should be aware of this. Color temperature is adjustable, but only to four presets. (A lot of LCD monitors offer color adjustments but not in terms of color temperature, so this is a plus.) Both monitors are running on a single Nvidia GeForce 7800 video card. This card has two DVI outputs, so both monitors benefit from the digital signal. Vista's dual monitor configuration is excellent, and the task bar and sidebar can be placed on either monitor. Overall, I highly recommend this monitor.

The monitor I got is defective. Support through ViewSonic is not the best. Having a real hard time getting someone to respond to my problem.
Defective May 27, 2008 K. Bennett (Brush Creek, TN USA) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought the monitor as a gift for my son. I set it up, it looked great. Walked out of the room and came back in a few minutes to a black screen. Turning the monitor off and back on gets a screen for only a few seconds. Tried it on another computer - same result. I used the on line support from viewsonic. They wanted me to access the menu but this was not possible. I was advised to return it for a replacement. After seeing the reviews here with 2 of the 5 purchasers having defective units, I am not sure what to do.
A Fine Display May 22, 2008 J. Jobst (Houghton, MI) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Good graphics, etc. My only complaint is about the software that came with it. Every time I turn on the display I must look for a minute at a small popup reminding me that I can change to a higher resolution. I like the resolution I've chosen and don't wish to change, but I can't get rid of this annoying popup. It says "Press 2 to disable the message," but that does not seem to work.
