Product Description Includes Vivitar ViviCam 8300s 8.1 MP Digital Camera USB cable AV cable Wrist strap Pouch case Driver CD-ROM Photo Explorer and Photo Express software User manual.
Amazon.com Product Description The super-slim, feature-packed Vivicam 8300s digital camera is ideal for all your digital imaging needs. The camera is equipped with an 8.5-megapixel, 24-bit color CCD image sensor that delivers a maximum resolution of approximately 3,250 x 2,500 pixels, along with a 3.x optical power zoom lens that ranges from 7.5 to 22.5 mm. Add in the vast selection of exposure modes and controls and a small chassis that fits easily in most pockets and you have a camera that lends itself to both creative photographers and snapshot hobbyists. In addition, the oversized 2.5-inch LCD is big enough to make critical framing evaluations during recording and playback. While the zoom lens captures photos from afar, the macro function lets you take a much closer look--as near as 2 inches--without losing focus. The macro mode is great for shooting insects, flower petals, and other detailed but tiny objects. Beginners and casual photographers, meanwhile, will appreciate the Auto Exposure mode, which instinctively assigns shutter speeds from 1/2 to 1/1,500 of a second using center weighted or spot metering so you don't have to adjust the settings yourself. And should the 3.x optical zoom prove insufficient, the camera also includes a selectable 4x digital zoom. In addition to taking topnotch still images, the Vivicam 8300s captures movie clips with audio. The recording quality ranges from 640 x 480 to 320 x 240 (at 24 frames per second) until the memory card is full. Users can also add voice memos after the images are recorded thanks to the built-in microphone and speaker. Finally, the Vivicam 8300s comes with photo editing software. The software is particularly convenient, as it preps the photos for e-mail, posting to the Web, or printing. And because of the camera's high-resolution output, you can rest assured that even large print images will look detailed and vivid. Additional features include auto focus with both spot and multi-point metering, automatic white balance with five presets and manual override, exposure control, built-in auto-flash, and a self-timer with 2, 10, or 10+2 second settings. The Vivicam 8300s, which measures a mere 3.7 by 2.2 by 1.1 inches (W x H x D), comes with USB and video output cables, a lithium-ion battery pack, and an AC adapter/charger. It's also backed by a one-year warranty. What's in the Box Vivicam 8300s digital camera, photo editing software on CD-ROM, USB cable, video output cable, rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack, AD adapter/charger, user's manual.

Great camera for the price I paid February 16, 2006 S & G 74 out of 75 found this review helpful
I like the quality of the pictures and the many features all packed into a very small, yet sturdy camera. Despite the camera's small size the viewing area of the screen is large enough to clearly view your shot. This is my first digital camera but it is very easy to use and understand with advanced features I can "grow into". I also appreciate that the camera comes with the AC adapter and proper cables to connect the camera to your PC or television as well as some nice editing and viewing software. I paid $299.95 for the camera on Amazon with free shipping and I feel that the camera is worth that price. I'm not certain if I would feel the same way if I had to pay the MSRP of $599.95 but I'm always looking for the best deal. My one criticism is that the information on replacement/back-up batteries was lacking. The manual says, "We highly recommend using specified rechargeable lithium-ion battery (1050mAh, 3.7V) . . . " The specifications page only refers to the power supply as, "Rechargeable Lithium-ion battery (3.7v)" As soon as I received my camera, I went online and ordered batteries from 2 different dealers using the battery specifications provided in the manual - I wanted more than one backup and I thought I would compare brands for quality. When I received the batteries, neither of them fit my camera. I contacted the companies I ordered the batteries from to see about an exchange but neither of them carried the battery I needed. I then went online and searched specifically for replacement batteries for the Vivitar Vivicam 8300s and I could find nobody who sells this battery. What I did finally find was a website that referred to the power supply for this camera as being a "Proprietary Lithium". So I was a bit frustrated that this wasn't mentioned in the camera's manual as it could have saved me the time, trouble and return postage for the one battery I was able to return as well as the entire cost of the other battery I wasn't able to return - not an inexpensive mistake. At this point I realized the only option left me was to place a toll call to Vivitar to see if I could order a battery directly from them. The people at customer service were very nice and when I told them how I mistakenly ordered 2 batteries that didn't fit my camera because the manual wasn't clear on how to order additional batteries, the woman I spoke with told me that she would get a message out to the people who put together the manual. Too late for me and for many other people who will purchase this camera before a revised manual is in circulation but it's all that can be done at this point. Anyway, I mention it here for anyone who reads these reviews so that they don't make the same mistake. The battery's price when ordered from Vivitar is $19.95 + $5.00 shipping and handling. It seems a reasonable price, I just wish I had known from the start that I could only order the battery from Vivitar and I also wish they had a toll free number for ordering the battery or a place on their website to place an order. I was told that this section of the website is not yet complete . . . so perhaps in the future we'll have that option. But I still love the camera and would recommend it to friends and family with the caveat about ordering backup batteries.

Very good digital camera December 1, 2005 Richard (Tacoma, Wa) 50 out of 54 found this review helpful
The camera is smaller than I had expected it to be. It has a decent heft (for the size) and feels sturdy. I have used all the modes and have obtained wonderful pictures with them. Every feature works as expected, and the camera takes pictures right out of the box. I would recommend to my family and friends, and already have. When I picked up the camera I was able to use it without reading any of the material. All the features are well documented on the camera itself, and then in the thick user guide (94 English pages). I only opened the user guide to ensure I had not missed something though. The only very small matter is when the highest resolution is used with the maximum zoom (digital and analog) there are a few areas that are dark when viewed on a computer and zoomed in as far as possible. However, if the digital zoom is turned off these go away.
Vivicam 8300s January 7, 2006 Mrs. C. A. Walker (South Yorkshire, England) 34 out of 37 found this review helpful
The camera was a present from my husband and quite a surprise as we have 7 other camera (2 other digitals). We have just returned from New York where I hinted like mad to had a 'new' camera. However, my husband found no greater reduction and decided to buy in England - well New York is a long way to take it back if I didn't want it! The camera works a dream and very easy to understand. I have waded my way through the manual - twice and find that other settings on manual produce wonderful pictures. However, set the camera to AUTO and enjoy - the camera does everything! The Portrait produce fantastic close up shots of the family. The macro is really good on close-ups and the night-time feature is a must! The movie footage is 30fps and looks great on the PC or television. I got about 30 mins. with my 1 Gb SD card. The quality is better than some of the best digital camcorders. I still call it 'cine.' All the leads and connections you would ever need are with the camera. However, if best resolution set, back lcd left on and flash used you will only take 30-40 photos before a re-charge but, they will be the best 30-40 pictures you can view! Would love to find a car charger for this camera. If anyone has any ideas?????
