Mil Spec, tripod fighting machine..... well almost : ) March 28, 2007 Michael E. Gburzynski (San Diego, CA USA) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
We have a closet full of broken and worn out tripods. Heads go bad, legs no longer hold up. NOT THIS ONE!! I am fully confident that I could mount a heavy machine gun to this tripod. Built with heavy duty materials. Precision construction, just like the Steadicam Merlin (we have one of those too) that is made by the same company. 10 Year warrantee, and when you see this beast in person, you will understand why. Simply put, the last tripod you will ever buy. Fluid Pan head is ridiculously smooth and ALL METAL!. Comes with a nice heavy duty body bag. I first saw this bad boy on display in the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show, and tried to buy the display model on the spot.
The last video 'pod you'll ever need July 6, 2007 J. Lent (Catskills NY) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
Top end quality. Tough powder coated legs, aluminum castings. Shipping weight is 11 pounds -- B and H included at no extra cost a 3" wheeled dolly and two extra quick-connect plates. Very smooth action on legs, silky glide on extra heavy duty fluid head. I've used O'connors and Millers costing 1,000 smackers, and this head is just as good if not better. Ball leveling and bubble; locks down TIGHT too. Balancing cam is easy and fast. Comes with heavy duty black ballistic nylon bag (which is even lined with sateen fabric and has two zipper compartments and tote strap). The "blue bag" from that Vermont company alone is $200. Very pleased with the excellent construction and fast service and extras from B and H. This pod's a definite winner in all aspects so far. Comes with 10 year warranty so be sure to save the proof of purchase invoice and register the product. Even comes with allen wrench to tighten head screws if necessary. Highly recommend this fine product.
A FANTASTIC Tripod July 5, 2006 John L. Mondelli (Florida) 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
After dealing with cheap tripods from local camera and electronics stores I finally decided I needed to get a REAL tripod that would pan, tilt and STAND UP properly. This tripod is a thing of beauty. The best $200 I ever spent on Amazon! If you're tired of your piece of trash tripod and need something that will WORK PROFESSIONALY then this is what you need!
Camera mounting plate poorly designed November 3, 2007 Karema (New Orleans, the Crescent City USA) 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
The first time I went out on a shoot, I had a heck of a time mounting the camera to this tripod. The screws would not rotate completely because they were too close to the camera. The plate was poorly design as well at the mount. the tripod otherwise is very stable and smooth. I am thinking about trying to get a custom fit just so I can easily mount my camera to this unit without spending so much time. I am surprised others did not mention this huge flaw in their own reviews. This is the worst mount I have ever used. On a good note, this tripod came with a camera bag and dolly, if purchased via BH Photo.
Great Tripod November 5, 2007 Susan R. Masterson 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I'm really impressed with this tripod. I've been using an $1100 Manfrotto tripod, so I was skeptical about spending $200. The fluid head moves very smoothly and with the lock adjustments tight it simulates a drag adjustment. The ball setting for the head allows a super quick adjustment for level---easy to see with the bullseye level attached to the head. Just unscrew the vertical bar under the head and the ball rotates in its base to any desired angle. The tripod shipped with an extra mounting plate, but the allen wrench that was supposed to be in the bag is not in the bag. The carry bag is very nice.
