Not Bad If Your Expectations Aren't Too High December 19, 2006 Robert Potter (Portland, OR USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I downloaded the trial version of TurboCAD Deluxe and worked with it a little during the 15 day evaluation period. Since I was only interested in 2D CAD, and it appeared that TurboCAD Designer had the same functionality without the 3D drawing benefits, I bought it thinking I'd save about $100. Bad decision. While the Designer version has most of the features of the Deluxe, it doesn't have them all. For example, Deluxe allows you to "transform" an object by rotating it a specified number of degrees, while the Designer version does not. One of the things that makes this a pain is that both versions come with the same help file! So you'll read about a feature or menu option, and then spend a significant amount of time trying to find it, only to ultimately discover that it isn't really there. I've even spent hours looking for features in the Deluxe version that are shown in both the self-running demo and in the help file, and been unable to locate them in the program itself. Which isn't to say that the program is all bad. It does an amazing job of putting together a credible CAD drawing for $30. It's just that you'll spend a lot of time learning how to use it because the help file is so poor. The Deluxe version comes with a book, which I didn't see since I only downloaded the demo, but based on the help file I wouldn't expect much. I think I'll go back to Microsoft Visio and count myself lucky that I only invested $30.
