This is an excellent scanner and the farthest thing from the functionality of a flat bed scanner. The first thing you will notice is the speed you can scan multiple pages. I am using 400dpi (BW) and the speed is awesome. At lower resolutions, it may take longer to shred your documents than scan them. The unit is very compact, much smaller than the pictures make it appear on the web. I have had this scanner for almost a month and a half, and put two full banker boxes of documents through it with absolutely no problems. The staples take longer to remove than the scanning documents. Stapled pages do cause it to jam, so you will have to prep your documents before scanning them. The USB connection is convenient because its really easy to unplug it and put it out of the way when you're done scanning. The Scandall software is a little less slick than say Adobe products, but it is very reliable and easy to use. It comes with Adobe Acrobat (STD) which is perfect for me as I am converting all of my paper files to PDF. I highly recommend PDF format to anyone scanning mass files because it is essentially digital paper that can be read on almost any computer. I use my computer more than 10 hours a day for all kinds of tasks, and very few computing devices have exceeded my expectations as this scanner has. Getting rid of the constant piles of paper without losing what is on them has transformed my workflow.

Superb machine!!! Worth every penny!!!

Always wanted to have my own imaged document archive since the dawn of scanning many, many years ago. Slowly would add to my scanned files, eventually over the years had about several thousand that got to PDF format, but the time involved was huge as I was using a flatbed and at 600 dpi only got about a dozen scans an hour. And the paper bins kept filling up faster than they could be scanned, so it seemed a hopeless battle.

Dreamed of the day when all the accumulated paper would at last be processed. The paper blob seemed to mock my efforts and grew to close to half a ton (imagine the storage problem - I have about 40 0r 50 roughneck containers full - what a ponderous hoard).

Well, at last the wait is over and victory will finally be achieved :)

This Scanner surpasses all my expectations. The speed and accuracy is amazing and the scans are simply beautiful. Document feeder is OUTSTANDING.

What took me 6 Months to get through before now takes me a couple of days maximum. Feel like I've been sawing down trees with a pocket-knife and now have an industrial chain-saw. That's how good it feels to go through the stacks of paper with this device. At 1000 scans a day, with each scan taking just a few seconds, it will change my life and my situation very quickly.

The mountains of documents will soon be completely vanquished. And those old Popular Science Magazines I've been saving? Their days are numbered, too.

This scans so fast, most shredders would have trouble keeping up with it.

Just get yourself a Terrabyte Drive (which seem to be falling in price rapidly) and create your own personal total imaged library. Now it's possible.

Fujitsu RULES!! THANK YOU!!!!

We have been using a Fujitsu fi-4120c scanner for about two years now. It is fast and has not given us any problems. It is "bulletproof!" We needed a second scanner and just got an fi-5120c scanner and it is even faster than the fi-4120c. And, it will probably be just as reliable as well.

I have now bought 2 of these for my office. We are tring to go more paperless.I read the reviews on about 50 different scanners.I picked this one because it has a Twain driver that integrates into my practice software. This thing is blazingly fast.Does duplex scanning.Small foot print. The model comes with several software porgrams but the most basic worked for me.I would have liked to use the Adobe software but my practice management software company hasn't discovered the PDF format yet.The whole office is very impressed by these scanners. They are worth the extra money .

I had purchased 3 HP scanners at different times, the lastest was a 5500, all of which were insufferably incompentent and a complete waste of time and money. Never again will I buy an HP product unless it's a laser jet printer, which is a fabluous product.

I've tried and returned 3 Brother all-in-ones, none of which worked well as scanners, except the doc feeder did work well sometimes as paper shredder. I couldn't figure out how to remove the jammed original from the doc feeder except by pulling it through, which, on perforated originals, would destroy the document. Phooey on Brother. Another complete waste of time.

With that background, now comes Fujitsu. I paid full legal retail, no fooling around with E-Bay on this one, and got the product the next business day for $20 more shipping.

The scanner is a work of art, a complee delight and a reliable workhorse. It always works, it's small, quiet and FAST. The standard software is a dream. The doc feeder opens like a clam shell, so NO pulling the paper through if it jams. You just press the releast button and the thing opens up and the original drops out of the bottom. It scans both sides of the doc at the same pass, at about the same speed as single sided scanning, so no jerking around with running the original back and forth through the doc feeder, where it introduces more opportunity for a screw ups, tearing and jamming. In case you have experienced it, it's horrifying to watch your original being slowly crumpled and torn while the doc feeder groans, then stops after it has destroyed your document. It's a sickening feeling.

Later, I bought a Canon duplex copier, Image Class model 6530, which sounded like a thrashing machine. It was both slow and stupid, on top of being too loud. It's duplex copying ran the copy through back and forth four times before it produced a single page of copy. It's doc feeder for duplexing was back and forth with the original, and it, too, jammed and the doc feeder wouldn't open up so you could gently remove the original. It also acted as a shredder. It went back.

The only thing about this Fujitsu model is that it doesn't have a flat bed for scanning photos and books, etc. That version wouldn't fit my pocket book or my desk top. My brother has a 5110C and says he just uses his copier for these jobs requiring a flatbed and then scans in the copy. I'll be buying a very nice Canon flatbed for about $80 which should work well for color flatbed and book scanning, which I need from time to time. The combination should be a killer.

In summary, the 5120C is a fabulous product which is carefully designed to do it's job flawlessly, taking everything into consideration, including noise, desk space, speed, reliability, ease of use, and care-free usability. With all those benefits, don't complain about the price. If you value your time, you respect yourself, you'll pay the price and get the one that works properly, so you can get on to the work at hand, rather than fighting your tools.

Hope this helps...
