5 out of 5 stars A Must Needed Protection!   January 17, 2008

I have only owned this product for a short while so I haven't experienced any problems. Two years ago my computer ended up with a worm which sent out bogus messages to friends to infect their Windows computers. It was embarrassing and upsetting. I had always bragged that Macs were immune. I purchased a version of Norton Anti-Virus and within a day, the troubles stopped. Since then, I never leave my Mac unprotected. This version seems to be an improvement over other versions and I feel better having it on my computer. I now have Leopard OX so I wanted to make sure the program could protect it.

2 out of 5 stars Very Slow Software   April 12, 2008

This software works but it really really really slow. Really really really slow. Slows my new imac to a crawl and the slowest of antivirus scans I've ever seen. Just changed over from the PC world and as a creature of habit keep antivirus installed. All the antivirus authors seem to have free trials except Symantec. Probably because you'd be really frustrated and not buy the program... This was the biggest waste of money I've spent on software in a long time. Two stars since it probably does it's job....if it ever finishes the scan. So far six hours on a month old computer.

Update: Well, no longer is it a waste of money. Talked with their very friendly New Delhi tech support and got a refund. Bought Intego and though it's expensive, it does the job efficiently.

5 out of 5 stars Even Better Than Before   February 8, 2008

Since upgrading to Norton AntiVirus 11 for Mac, I've had no problems at all. It's done it's job reliably without me having to think about it. It even caught a couple of Windows PC viruses in my old email archive that the previous version of AntiVirus hadn't found.

1 out of 5 stars DON'T BOTHER!!   February 10, 2008

I purchased this product of the Norton website without realizing that it doesn't have support for Mac Leopard. I had to call customer service to request a refund and that was a pain in the you know what!! If it doesn't have support for your OS I wouldn't even bother. Go to the Norton website and get the info there. If it doesn't say then either call them or don't bother. Do research another brand!!!

4 out of 5 stars It seems to work, but scanning is painfully slow   February 18, 2008

I'm new to Macs, and couldn't find an integrated program of firewall/antivirus for Leopard. So I got this from Norton, and some other company's firewall. I'm waiting for them to conflict with each other, but so far so good.

NAV seems to be like all their other products: easy to install, easy to use, Live Update works well, attentive to details (this NAV automatically scans everything that comes into contact with the computer, such as a new CD ROM installing a program, or the backup drive being turned on. It's too much perhaps, but I appreciate the thoroughness even though I cancel such scans as a rule). The program is more expensive than I'd like, but compared to having a computer trashed by some idiot making a virus, I pay up.

On my first scan of the backup hard drive, it identified some virus, and dealt with it automatically. So much for Macs not being prone to viruses. And I'd been on the internet, with a firewall, for only about a day or two without the NAV running.

Hard drives being what they are in size these days, with bloatware, scanning is becoming immensely slow, measured in hours. I'm no computer geek or technowizard, but there ought to be some way to speed up the process. When you consider that one has to scan not only the hard drive but also backups now, going thru the entire system can take the better part of a work day.

So, the program works, but it's slow.
