5 out of 5 stars Great hub, especially for people who have thumb drive mp3 players   May 10, 2006

I got this for my brother because he has a Samsung Yepp YP-U1Z mp3 player, which is shaped like a thumb drive and charges off his computer's USB port. Having to turn on his computer just to charge his mp3 player was kind of annoying, so I bought him this USB hub. It works great for charging the Yepp and the top USB ports also let it double as a dock for the Yepp.

He's had it for about 5 months now and it has been working fine. He has his Logitech optical mouse and his mp3 player hooked up to it most of the time.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed - but it's a good idea   November 17, 2006

I like the idea of being able to stack these usb hubs however this particular model has had widespread problems with heating issues. I thought maybe it was just mine but after reading other reviews on this site and others it's not - a lot of these hubs end up overheating and basically shutting off. This will then not come back up unless you turn the hub off and back on again after it's cooled down a bit. This also means that you can't use it to connect any critical components such as a usb mouse or keyboard to it (obviously not a great product if you are afraid to use it for its intended purpose). I like belkin products but come on already and get a new version out for us. What a waste of money.

4 out of 5 stars Convenient hub with top ports   July 26, 2006

I bought this for the number of ports as well as the two accessible top ports. They make it easy to connect things like USB drives and cameras that don't stay resident. Very convenient.

This has been working well for me, although occasionally I have issues with a device not being recognized. A reboot usually clears things up though. I also have a PCI card hub, so I'm probably pushing the envelope - might be some other issue. But generally it plays well with the other USB things.

Despite what the description might lead you to believe, the port indicators are just green LEDs that are on whenever the device is powered up. They're pretty useless - all this really needed was a single power indicator.

All that having been said, it's been pretty good - no issues for more than a year of constant use.

5 out of 5 stars Compact and easy. UPDATE: dies after 6 months.   August 2, 2006

worked like a charm right out of the box. nice accessible design.

UPDATE: This hub died within 6 months. Nice physical design but bad quality. I would downgrade this to 1 star if I could

2 out of 5 stars It's bloody huge   August 17, 2007

This is about 5.5" across and 4" deep. Sheesh, there are laptop computers about that size. It's much bigger than it needs to be. Sure, it's sorta thin, but it's just a hub, it doesn't need to take up lots of scarce real estate. No wonder they don't mention the dimensions here or at the Belkin site.

And in case it's not clear, the upturned part does not swivel down into the gap, or anything like that. Apparently it's meant to allow these to be stacked.
