Beautiful, Stunning Design
Designed by internationally acclaimed designer Neil Poulton, the Hard Disk features sleek and sophisticated styling. The case is entirely black with a fashionable, mirror-polished finish. A cool, blue LED strip on the bottom casts an ambient glow. The ultra-minimalist look will blend perfectly into home entertainment setups and workstations.

But don't think the design is just about looking good. Built to optimize heat dissipation so that it can operate without a fan, the drive is also designed for convenience and portability. At just 4.6 x 1.8 x 7.6 inches (WxHxD) and weighing barely two pounds, it can be easily transported into your briefcase, allowing you to shuttle files between your home and office, or move your work between your laptop and desktop with ease.

More Space for More Media
With an additional 750 GB of disk space, the Hard Disk can store up to 52 hours of DV video or 202,000 songs or 825,000 photos. Instead of having all this data stored on an internal drive on your desktop computer that can't be moved around, imagine being able to carry your entire digital media collection with you on your travels. You can also use the drive to back up your computer files for extra security.

Fast Performance and Exceptional Compatibility
Using the universal and fast USB 2.0 interface, which offers a transfer rate of up to 480 Mbps, this drive will work with both Macs and PCs. It's plug and play, and offers customizable formatting with the LaCie Setup Assistant. The drive features a rotational speed of 7200 rpm and has a cache of at least 8 MB, providing performance that won't keep you waiting for your files to backup or your media to play.

The drive is compatible with Windows 2000, XP, and Vista, as well as Mac OS 10.3 or higher. Included in the box is LaCie's 1-Click Backup Software (Windows and Mac), as well as LaCie SilverKeeper Backup Software (Mac) making backups an easy and painless process.

The LaCie 750 GB USB 2.0 Hard Disk, Design by Neil Poulton is backed by a 2-year limited warranty.

4 out of 5 stars Great Drive For a Reasonable Price   January 5, 2008

I bought two of these (750GB) to replace a failing drive and to be more responsible about backups. I have some complaints, but overall I really like them.

Pros: great case, good size (a largish paperback; slightly narrower, lower and longer than my Mac Mini), on/off button, small adapter with a regular plug, no fan, relatively low light output from the front indicator.

Cons: louder than other fanless drives (compared to the Seagate eSATA 750), ambient light flickers with drive activity (I'd prefer a constant light).

Depends: only has USB.

In my opinion, online images make it look bigger than it is. Check the dimensions. The smooth black case lacks prominent logos. They can be stacked, but only two. I assume this is for heat dissipation reasons.

Why only 4 stars? Lacie's advertising claims it is "near-silent". Close, but not quite.

4 out of 5 stars Great...but not so much for Linux   May 5, 2008

This Hard disk has a wonderful design and is not too noisy. I just want to point out that this disk, on amazon is sold to be "Linux compatible" (which doesn't mean anything at all) and is formatted in NTFS the so much windows partition format. Anyway I fixed that and now have a 750GB EXT3 Hard disk with one of the most beautiful design.....I rated it 4 because of this little detail otherwise for the price and capacity, perfect.

1 out of 5 stars Probably bad luck...   June 5, 2008

Sadly, this drive lasted less than 12 hours. It formatted properly and worked right initially, but by the next morning, my laptop couldn't find it. After testing it on another machine, I confirmed what I suspected -- dead drive.

The LaCie tech support process isn't very friendly either -- it amounts to a back-and-forth e-mail exchange between user and tech, hosted on their website. It took three days just to get past the "is your drive plugged in?" level of questions. Some level of phone support would have helped.

I've returned the drive and will probably try a replacment and hope for better luck. I've had success with LaCie drives in the past, and this thing sure does look slick (even better than the pic)! Hopefully, I'll be back and able to report something more favorable in a few months.

4 out of 5 stars Nice design, a bit noisy   July 23, 2008

Not the most quiet drive out there. I have had some other external LaCie drives in the past, and this one is the noisiest, not too bad, but I wouldn't recommend it for a room where you will be sleeping in. It looks great. So far so good, (about 2 months usage for now), but I am using it only for backups with Time Machine, attached to my iMac (Mac OS X), and taking backups every other day. Its beeen working great. If this unit was quiter and used no external adapter (usb powered), I'd give it a 5 star rating.

5 out of 5 stars Great little drive   August 2, 2008

It looks good even though the design may be a bit too minimalistic. The blue light in the bottom stays turned on all the time and it's quiet enough. I'd buy it again.
p.s. I deleted all the crap this thing installs on itself after formatting (it's pretty easy)
