And Sony's original XBRITE-ECO LCD technology delivers razor-sharp details and crisp, bold colors--all while conserving battery life. This notebook is powered by the 1.73 GHz Intel Pentium T2370 dual-core processor and it comes with 2 GB of installed RAM (maxing out capacity). Other features include a 160 GB hard drive, 54g Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11b/g), multi-format/dual-layer DVD RW drive (which also burns CDs), ExpressCard 34 slot, and both Memory Stick and SD memory cart slots. The Basics - Processor: The 1.73 GHz Intel Pentium T2370 dual-core processor delivers additional computing resources and help expand the PCas capabilities by providing higher throughput and simultaneous computing. You'll be able to perform multiple tasks such as digital rendering and gaming all while running virus scan or other background tasks seamlessly. Each core shares 1 MB of L2 cache, and they have a 533 MHz front-side bus. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
- Hard Drive: The 160 GB hard drive (5400 RPM) offers enough to room to hold a digital audio library of over 26,000 songs and still have room left over for movies, games, and a large collection of software. This Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to Firewire and USB 2.0.
- Memory: The 2 GB of installed DDR2 RAM (PC4200, 2 x 1024 MB DDR2, 533 MHz) maximizes the capacity for this notebook, and the additional capacity helps boost the amount of available video RAM that's shared with this notebook's video card.
- DVD/CD Drive: The dual-layer DVD drive is compatible with a wide range of formats, including both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs, CD-RW discs, and dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can hold up to 8.5 GB of data--great for backing up your MP3 collection or your most important documents. It features the following speeds: 4x for DVD+R DL, 4x for DVD-R DL, 8x for both single layer DVD R, 8x for single layer DVD+RW, 6x for single layer DVD-RW, 5x for DVD-RAM, and 24x for CD-R/RW. It reads DVD-ROM discs at 8x and CD-ROMs at 24x.
- Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a standard 86-key keyboard (2.5mm stroke and 19.05mm pitch) and electro-static two-button touchpad. Playback controls include play/pause, stop, forward, rewind, AV mode, mute, volume +/-, capture, and display off.

Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, which uses shared video memory (up to 358 MB allocated from the system memory) and provides Windows Vista Aero interface support and enhanced 3D graphics performance--delivering over 2x scores on 3DMark 06. Intel Clear Video Technology provides outstanding video playback with sharper image quality, increased clarity, and customizable color controls. Very Pleased May 29, 2008 David M. Loewy (Nashville, TN United States) 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
Both my parents have sworn by Sony Vaio laptops, and have had several over the years. I decided several years ago to purchase a Vaio desktop and was very pleased. Since my new business requires the use of a laptop I decided to give this one a go. I have had the unit for about 6 hours, and I'm overall pleased with the unit. The screen is wonderful, very vibrant and big. The colors virtually pop out! It is also very easy to type on, the keys fit my medium sized hands nicely. The downside of the unit is of course Windows Vista, it would be nice to be able to get an XP version. There was a lot of junk software installed, trials of Office, Norton 360, Scattered with AOL software, all sorts of junk which I guess is to be expected these days so if you don't need any of these items be prepared to spend a lot of time uninstalling. The other downside is the max of 2 gig or ram -- the video card takes up up to 384 mb so you're left with 1.6 gig. They should allow you to go up to at least 4 gig which Vista can use effectively, check ou the tech sites because even several sales people were of the belief that Vista can't use more than 3.6. Check the tech sites, they will explain what will happen to the remaining .4 gig. This is a preliminary review, if I have any issues (non Vista related) I will post a follow up, but honestly I must say I really like this laptop even with the issues addressed above. Oh, I'm not an audiophile, but the sound seems fine to me. I like the fact that I can pop a disk in and play it without booting up the laptop, although I doubt that I'll get much use out of the feature. :)

don't buy sony August 2, 2008 book reader (New Orleans) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I own a Vaio and so does my girlfriend. Unbelievably, her charger does not work on my Vaio, and vice versa. Further, the Vaio does not accept SD cards so you have to carry a converter, plus, most ridiculously, my Sony video camera's memory stick does not fit Sony's memoery stick. Sony has produced different memory sticks for its video cameras, compatible maybe with who knows what, another converter to buy and carry. Meanwhile, no matter whether I turn off the wireless, the Sony feels compelled to keep warning me that my wireless is not connected. I'm through with Sony forever.
Don't do business with Sony August 19, 2008 doppelganger (Chicago) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I had heard the rumours too: that once you buy it, they don't care. It's true. They will say anything that sounds peachy, delivery dates, custom configurations, etc. I had given them another chance recently and it's the same story. Their TV's are great, but they just don't really care about you, their bread and butter. The bloatware that comes with it is pretty terrible too. It was easier to just buy a new copy of windows Vista and overwrite all their trialware than it was to remove it all (which you never fully will). I'm done with them, there are plenty of good alternatives..
