5 out of 5 stars Extremely pleased with MP610   November 4, 2007

I have used my MP610 for only one month, but am extremely pleased. I didn't time it, but the "Fast" mode is very fast and better than draft quality for documents. Color does suffer in "Fast" mode. I had banding in a solid black field and colors weren't as true to original. But in 'standard' mode I detected no obvious faults. The 'High' mode with photo paper has outstanding color and detail to my layman eyes. I've printed heavy card stock (45#) with no problem. I dearly love the Duplex feature. I had paper feed problems with my previous HP printer, but this internal Duplex mechanism is much more than I expected at this price. The description and pictures of the product did not addequately show the paper feed options. There is a straight through feed from a raised paper holder in the rear requiring a height clearence of more than 7 inches over the height of the printer. The feed tray also leans slightly back requiring about 4 more inches clearance behind the machine. Also to my surprise there is a paper feed cassette in the bottom of the printer. It pulls out forward to load and then is reinserted. It can hold multiple sized paper, and presents a 'U' shaped feed path. I've yet to use it.
The 610 functions well as a color copy machine. I've used the scanner once to scan a company's gold emblem to use on 'home made' business cards and found the quality more than adequate in color and detail. I have NO complaints, yet.

5 out of 5 stars Great Printer at a Great Price   November 22, 2007

This was purchased as a replacement for a worn out all-in-one printer from a different manufacturer. It is used primarily as a text and graphics printer and photocopier. The quality of printed materials, in both black and in color, is excellent. Copy quality is also excellent. The Canon uses five ink cartridges -- CYMK for color work, a separate black for black-only work. I've been in the computer industry for fifty years and have owned and used many different printers. I highly recommend this printer.

3 out of 5 stars What You'd Expect from Canon   December 29, 2007

This printer is my fourth Canon, but my first all-in-one. Canon builds good printers that work, and this one fits that description, but it is not a step forward over the i860 it replaced. In fact, the print quality of the i860 is quite a bit better.

I do think that complaints about its size are a bit unfair. It is larger in size than some other printers that do the same things, but it fits fine on my printer stand. Set-up was easy, and I had it up and running within 30 minutes after getting it unpacked, a daunting task in itself.

Overall, I'd say text printing is very good, copys are good, but scans are only fair, and photos are somewhere in between. The card reader works just like a card reader.

If you can buy this printer for around $150, I think you'll be happy with it, but you might want to find somewhere that you can actually see it in action before buying it. It does all the things it's advertised to do, it's just that there really isn't a wow factor to any of them. Perhaps that's fine for everyday home office use, but if your more of a photo or graphics hobbiest, you probably should look at other models, including those in Canon's own lineup.

5 out of 5 stars awesome printer   January 27, 2008

I've owned just about every brand of printer made. I had never owned a Canon however and when my last printer died a slow painful death (a Dell), I faithfully read all the reviews (thank god for people that actually write these so the rest of us know what to buy) and ended up with this printer. It is absolutely the most fantastic printer ever. It's pretty quiet, is sooooo user friendly, quality is just fantastic and operation in all aspects is a dream. I just wish I'd found thisi one sooner. I love it.

1 out of 5 stars Error U150   February 16, 2008

This is the worst printer that I have ever owned. Not only was it almost impossible to get it to install, but now the "U150" error keeps cropping up. Do you know what that error is? Let me tell you a little about U150.

First the error states: U150 The Following Ink Tank Cannot Be recognized. and then the little screen indicates the offending color (currently Magenta on my printer)

note that this does not mean that the ink is out, or that the ink is low. It means that the stupid printer cannot see/identify/recognize its own stupid ink cartridge. Now, keep in mind that I'm not talking about some knock off ink bucket sold by some fly by night organization...this is a Canon ink cartridge that came with the printer. The first thing that happened was a "empty cartridge" indication with the yellow, so sight unseen, I went and purchaced a new canon brand yellow cartridge and was shocked when I went to replace it and found that the first one was darn near full. Did't need to be replaced at all. I replaced it anyway and that was when I started getting the U150 errors.

Here is the clincher....the whole darned machine is non-functional when you get this error. You can't scan...you can't print black and white....nothing. WHY can you not scan if a printer cartridge is bad???? The two actions have nothing to do with each other.

U150 The Following Ink Tank Cannot Be recognized.

I pulled the brand new yellow capsule out and put it back in and was able to print a page before...

U150 The Following Ink Tank Cannot Be recognized.

pulled it out and put it back in and ....nothing.

U150 The Following Ink Tank Cannot Be recognized.

Pulled it out and turned the machine off and then on....was able to print on page before...

U150 The Following Ink Tank Cannot Be recognized.

Replaced the cartridge again and the error went a way. This time I was able to print 5 pages over two days without problems. Then it happened with the Cyan.

Augh. what a worthless piece of crap. I ask you; what kind of engineer designs a machine like this where if you have a empty printer cartridge...you can't use the scanner?

Save your money on this one folks. It is a lemon. Formally loyal Canon buyer (three cameras, one digital camera, one digital video camera, three printers, two scanners)
