False advertising on Maxtor website December 5, 2007 Tim (Ohio) 20 out of 26 found this review helpful
I had purchased this after reviewing the info on the Maxtor website. It showed this specific model and when you watched the flash demo it showed the 'safety drill' software for backing up the computer's operating system, which is what I needed. Unfortunately, that was not included! I found this out after purchasing and looking for this software. It was misleading of their website to imply this is included, when it isn't. You have to buy the 'plus' version to get this, but their website flash demo never mentions this fact.
Excelent for the $$$$, so far so good. January 20, 2008 Cornstalks (WNC, USA) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I just purchased this drive to backup all my photos/videos/personal files so I could format my PC, and have had no problems so far. It installed easily, and this version shipped with everything it should have. My package did not say it included "safety drill" software as other reviewer implied, so I'm not sure of their complaint. Only the test of time will say for sure, but so far I'm very pleased with this drive for the money I spent.
Confusing backup system January 8, 2008 Geoff Churchill (Toccoa, GA USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The Maxtor 250 Gig One-Touch backup system's hardware is probably fine. The (you gotta print it yourself) manual is not too informative and requires 4 times as many pages as the information presented can justify. I still don't think all my data is actually backed up. My computer has folders containing data that the Maxtor software refuses to show. When I look at the contents of the backup using Windows Explorer I see no sign of those folders. I may need to manually copy those folders to the backup drive - I do not think I can rely on Maxtor's automatic backup. I'm not satisfied.
Super external hard drive December 22, 2007 Charles Kelly (Scottsdale, AZ USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This external hard drive works very well, plus it's light enough to move around easily from place to place.
warning! May 3, 2008 Uriah Heep (Bloomington, IN) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Be careful when unplugging this piece of junk or when starting up your computer. My files were not lossed but many were "orphaned" by this drive and this when I go to open the file (ex: music cd) there are huge gaps in the file. I use this one as a back up. Piece of junk. Buy a Lacie, they are much more reliable.
