Exactly What I expected August 14, 2008 Mo 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Alright, so I bought this laptop for college. I wanted something small, lightweight and powerful, but also good-looking. I though about the 14.1 inch Sony Vaio's and was extremely close to buying one when I found out about this PC. I've had it for about a week now, and if I remember, I'll update the review as time goes by. The laptop looks amazing, it has this shiny finish that's reflective, and i just love the feel of it, I would recommend heading over to your local PC/electronics store to see it in person, because that's how I fell in love. I'm not going list all the specs, because you can find most of them on this page, I'll list some cool features I liked though: The PC comes with Ulead DVD factory for Toshiba, which I love because i make mini movies, and the title menu's you can make on it are amazing. The laptop also has a flashlabel drive, so i can print awesome labels on my DVD's, a great feature if u use that stuff. It has a built in camera/mic which is cool. It also comes with face recognition software so you can actually log into the computer by using you're face rather than a password (it takes time to get used to, but it's cool). It has bluetooth, which i personally don't use, just throwing it out there. With 2.26 GHz and 3GB RAM i'm pretty sure this machine can handle my super multitasking, and whatever programs you have for it. Be warned that i don't play games on my laptop, so I can't speak for that The battery life is great, it can give you about 5 hours and a half for browsing the internet or Microsoft word. Yup, that's about all i have to say, u can drop a question in the comments :D Update: i forgot to mention that the battery that comes with this is an extended one, so it sticks out from the back about an inch, not that big of a deal with such a small PC (given the fact battery life is so great)
Good outside, Bad inside + horrible experience with Amazon August 19, 2008 mamber-m (Champaign, IL) 9 out of 22 found this review helpful
The good: (1) It's good looking! Some don't like that this shiny fusion finish is a fingerprint magnet, but I love it. I think this is one of the best looking laptops not produced by Apple. (2) It is reasonably priced. This statement can be applied to many Toshiba laptops. Except for some pricy models (like R500), Toshiba seems to set the prices at very competitive levels. Usually Toshiba laptops are much cheaper (conditional on the specs) than Sony, Lenovo, and more or less comparable (but often cheaper) than Dell and HP. (3) Decent keyboard, touchpad (synaptics), sound quality (average for a laptop), screen is shiny. 3 USBs, CD/DVD burner, Built in Camera, Bluetooth, Wirelss (not incl N). It is quiet, probably thanks for the P series processor. The bad: (1) I am worried about the touchpad button. I have been using the laptop only for two weeks, but the response of the right touchpad button (I am lefty so this is the left click button) is already getting less responsive. I used Dell and Lenovo in the past, and there was no problem in touchpad buttons after 4 years of use. I think that is not going to be the case with this laptop. Only for this reason, my next (or future) laptop will never be Toshiba. (2) Toshiba doesn't seems to support XP. I cannot find drivers for XP from Toshiba's webpage. (3) Recovery disk is really bad. I cannot choose which software to install when I implement a clean install. I tried to install without all the crapwares that Toshiba installed, but I cannot, because Recovery disk always recovers the laptop to its initial state (meaning thousands of craps which slow down or crush your PC). I hope Toshiba will include separate Vista disk or explain how to create an independent Vista disk. Also, because the recovery disk installs hundreds of craps, it takes really long time to recover... (4) Customer service is horrible. Toshiba does not seem to accept emails. It took forever (I tried for this review but gave up after 20 min of waiting) to connect to a customer service person. (5) This laptop is too new (using the latest Intel chipset) to be supported by Ubuntu or any major distro of Linux. For a while, you cannot use Linux nor XP, and thus stuck with Vista. Plus, Toshiba is not really famous for the support of Linux... (6) No fingerprint reader. Kind of not steady build (compared with Thinkpad so probably not fair). Battery sticks out; Toshiab cheats a bit with the "dimension" of the laptop. It's not as small as the official dimension suggests. The ugly: Amazon I placed an order on August 12th. No update until August 19th, and suddenly I received an email saying that they do not have it in stock and thus they cannot make delivery in line with the estimated schedule. Hopefully Amazon will handle my order MUCH better next time :(

I placed an order for this laptop on Aug 16, 2008. Promised to deliver 18th and then 22nd but actually the product is out of stock (per CSR comment). I finally bought this from CC where it is much cheaper (incl taxes). If you can get the product from Amazon right in time at a lower price than others, it may be a worth. This review is not for the product but for Amazon. I am going to leave a detailed product review in the store which offered me great price and wonderful service.
Better than I expected. October 18, 2008 Rodolfo V. Castro (Brazil) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This notebook is a 13,3" 2,26 GHz Core 2 Duo with 3 GB RAM and 320 GB HD. Ok. But... It has labeflash, extended battery and a radio turner. It would be better if it was a TV, but, for me that just bought because of the three first specifications... I strongly recomend. The price has come down since a I bought it.
The best in it's category November 8, 2008 Guilherme C. C. Ramos 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The machine is great. The only thing I miss is the fingerprint reader. The sound is nice for a notebook. It's thin and light for it's class, and definitely a very good looking machine. The battery is supperb, nearly 5,5 hours with wi-fi on, and heavy Internet browsing. It's extremely quiet, and don't get too warm. The radio tuner is excellent, very nice to have it. I can also record from a stereo line in (nice feature), it's the same input as the microphone, but you can set it up through software (great for transfer LP's to MP3). Keyboard is very smooth and responsive, very confortable to type. Don't forget it's got Bluetooth too. I'm very happy with it. Would buy it again.
