Amazon.com The Fighting Temptations may not cure the common cold with its FFF (Familiar Feel-Good Formula), but it'll definitely cure what ails you. Here's an unassuming, well-cast comedy drama, filled with forgiving spirit and jubilant gospel music, and its lessons go down as smooth as a mint julep in summertime. Mostly it's just good, harmless fun, beginning when a deceptive corporate ladder-climber (Cuba Gooding Jr.) returns from Manhattan to his southern-fried Georgia hometown to attend the funeral of a beloved aunt, whose will stipulates a reward of $150,000 if he'll direct the local church choir to win a big annual gospel music contest. The outcome is obvious, but veteran comedy director Jonathan Lynn keeps things percolating with casual flair, especially when a lovely lounge singer (Beyoncé Knowles, in a nicely downplayed costarring role) agrees to rejuvenate Gooding's choir, which teams rapping convicts, a boozy barfly (on organ), and bible-thumping prudes. With musical appearances by the O'Jays and the Blind Boys of Alabama, among others, how could this be anything but delightful? --Jeff Shannon

Great Movie - Great Music August 20, 2010 Jerry Foreman (San Clemente, CA) A jamacian indian friend of mine had first asked me, "How's your faith?" "Do you believe in God?" "Do you go to church?" "What kind of music do you like?" "Do you like funny movies?" Relunctantly answered his questions. Yes I believe in God, I love all kinds of music amd funny movies. My friend let me borrow his DVD Movie amd told me to make sure to play it thru my stereo, cause' it's has great music man'. And he was right. At first we were relunctant to see the movie because it was never really heavily advertised in Theatre or TV . We watched the movie as a family and enjoyed the whole movie all they way thru. We watched the Music Extra's afterwards and loved the muic too. Especially a song called "Waiting" by Ramiyah. Beautiful voices. You'll enjoy the movie and soundtracks. When you see someone else who needs a little help in believing. Lost there way. Either let them borrow your copy of the DVD or buy them a copy and hope they "pay it forward". There is quite a few stars from older TV shows (Golden Girls, Tool Time, etc...)that appear in this movie that add fun characteristics to the movie. You will not be disappointed.
this is a "feel good" movie April 5, 2010 M. smith 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I borrowed the movie from the library and liked it so much that I decided to buy it. Cuba Gooding is such fun to watch and Beyonce is a listening pleasure, even though this must have been one of her earlier movies, her acting has improved. ("Cadillac Records" is a good one to buy) The music will lift your spirits and the dialog will tickle all your funny bones.

A New York advertising executive who is about to land a big account, has his life shaken up when it becomes known that he has lied about having a college degree. After being fired, his life is further shaken by his debtors who had counted on paying after landing the account. Having to go on the run, he is called back to his southern town roots, when his great aunt dies. At the reading of the will, he learns he has been asked to assume the mantle of choir director of his great aunt's church and if he can get the choir in the Gospel Explosion in Atlanta, he will inherit stock worth $150,000. Unfortunately the choir leaves a lot to be desired and he has to start recruiting. Among others, he gets three prisoners to join. More importantly, he gets a "sinner" from one of the local night clubs to join. While initially scorned and resisted, nonetheless her voice wins everyone but the hardcore church busybody. A delightful, surprisingly fresh comedy. Cubba and Knowls are great in this movie. The movie was a very entertaining movie. It is fun to watch.
The Fighting Temptations DVD (Fullscreen) November 4, 2008 James C. Mcdaniel (Kuwait) This was a wonderful DVD that my whole family watched. It was funny; it had an all-star cast; overall a great movie that I would recommend to anyone to watch.
Very inspiring movie May 29, 2008 Susan Turley I loved this movie. I have already seen it five times! The singers were fantastic! This movie shows that no matter who you are or where you come from that GOD loves them all and they can be forgiven and it does not matter what color you are because it's for all people. I am getting ready to buy it because every time I rent it it costs me so I may as well purchase it and get it overwith because I already want to see it again! I recommend purchasing this movie.
