Should have done this long ago... March 24, 2005 nycebo (New York, NY) 45 out of 46 found this review helpful
I have well over 1000 CDs. For a long time, I considered the bookshelves and bookshelves of space that the collection required a tribute to my musical taste and experiences over the years. Indeed, the jewel cases just seemed to be an easy way to observe the entire collection and rapidly select the CD that I felt like listening to at the moment. Recently, a friend was over at my apartment and commented that the collection just looked ridiculously unwieldy. She had made the converstion to the CD wallet years ago and was never going back to the space cluster that jewel cases required. On her recommendation, I ordered the Case Logic 264 CD Wallet (she said that anything larger would be a bit heavy to move around with ease despite the fact that I had so many CDs). Of course, I should say that I ordered 7 of the cases so as to accomdate the large selection. The only comment that appropriately conveys my sentiment is: WOW! This is great. Here's why: 1. Shelves and shelves of CD shelving have been cleared/removed and converted into 7 (actually about 6.5) CD wallets. It's unbelievable how great this feels in a New York City apartment. It has opened up a bunch of space. 2. The Case Logic wallet is extremely well constructed. Having used a smaller version for the car, I somewhat know what to expect. THe backing of each insert is soft to ensure that CDs aren't scratched and the plastic that holds the CD in place is nice and secure. Though some have complained about the plastic binder not being able to open midway/midbook in order to easily reorder pages, it seems a LOT more secure than metal ring binders would be in the long term. 3. I opted for the 2 CDs per side rather than the 4 that is potential. Instead, I put the album liner notes next to each CD. Though this essentially cuts down by 1/2 the number of CDs each book can hold, it seems more pleasing to the eye and disks are much more easily accessible than having to root around behind liner notes to retrieve disk. Moreover, the fit seemed much too tight with 4 disks and liner notes per side. Last, trying to get the CDs out of the sleeves when stored 4 to a side with liner notes was a bit hard and I worried about scratching the CD (some of which are long out of print and prized). 4. The koskin case is very nice. Even though I store the wallets in a cabinet now, I imagine you could leave these on a bookshelf and they would not look like too much of an eyesore. 5. Access to the CDs is very easy. Because the sleeves can be reordered, I stuck with an alphabetic listing for rapid access....sometimes one just has to hear THAT song, right? Basically, this product is a delight. I know it sounds crazy and a bit overdone, but I legimately freed up tons of space and my concerns over the practicality of these CD wallets has been allayed. Funny, I actually will need to get an 8th in just a little while.....but it's easier than building another bookshelf. Final rating? A FIVE (5).
A good way to store a large CD collection March 23, 2003 Peter Durward Harris (Leicester England) 21 out of 23 found this review helpful
I have yet to find an ideal CD storage system, but this is better than most. It means you don't have to keep all those jewel cases. It is well-made and ideal for home storage. If you want to take your favorite CD's on your travels, you might prefer to buy a smaller version that will hold just enough CD's to keep you entertained while you are away from home. This case, when full, might be too heavy and bulky for travel convenience.A major disadvantage is that it does not hold any of the paper so it is necessary to store the booklet and backing separately. Also, because the rings holding the wallets are sealed, you cannot rearrange the wallets as you expand your collection. This makes it difficult to organise your CD's so that they are easy to find. Everybody can find their way round that problem, but it would be handy to have rings that open like normal ring files. I am still hoping that somebody will produce a really good storage system that caters for large CD collection at an affordable price. In the meantime, this will do.
Awesome case October 23, 2003 Gustave N. (Maine, United States) 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
I bought this case in spite of the couple of reviews I saw about it here on Amazon. It almost seems a couple of the reviewers and I got completely different cases, which may actually be the case, as they might have released a new one. The pages in my case are not sealed. I can remove the pages and put them in any order I want to. It's not like a normal 3 ring binder, as the opening will always remain to the far left, but it's still possible to rearrange things. I can also put any papers I desire into the case, just as the description says. It's a tight fit, but the plastic sheathing will accomodate whatever I'm putting into it. Just some of my own observations, this thing is HUGE! I'll be able to put discs into this thing for some time! They leave PLENTY of room in here for expansion, so as your collection grows, the book won't bulge, unlike other cases I've owned in the past. The is the best binder for discs I've ever bought! Now I just have to make room for it somewhere.
Get in now and get it here! February 13, 2004 . (Chicago, IL USA) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I already had a few of these ,(I'm 'reducing' my entire collection), and recently noticed that Amazon has them a LOT cheaper. BUT GET THIS: not only was this already a well-built, convenient piece, but the one I recieved from Amazon is an UPDATED design, so for almost 40% less, I got removeable pages,(not on the old ones), too. Otherwise, the excellent design is unchanged, and the snap-and-slip page removal system is strong and out of the way.
Great Product September 29, 2002 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
This is a wonderful choice to hold your entire CD collection. The leather-like look and feel make it a classy selection. The zipper opens and closes without any problems, even when nearing maximum capacity (I only have 240 CD's...but I'm workin on it). And of course, Case Logic provides only the best protection with their CD sleeves. I have CD's from 1990 and thanks to Case Logic, a lot of them remain scratchless. The handle is a great convenience, as the wallet does get heavy as you pass the 200 mark. The only thing keeping me from giving it the 5th star is a question of durability. Although the steel spine gives the wallet unsurpassed strength, I don't know about the Koskin material. It doesn't seem to be waterproof (in rainy situations). And being in Florida, where it rains every day in the summer, this might pose a problem. Also, it is a bit on the large and bulky side, but I guess that's the tradeoff for having a huge capacity. Despite that, this is an excellent product by Case Logic. It looks very professional, and it matches the black leather of my car. However, on account of the question of durability, I might consider getting the 264 Nylon holder by Case Logic instead. Amazon also offers it, just search "CDW-274" and check it out. If you don't live in a rainy place and you have a lot of CD's, I definitely recommend this product. Buy it...you won't be disappointed!
